I got Spike at a pet store when I saw him looking at me with a look of panic in his little eyes. I asked to hold him and he just clung to me as if to say "get me out of here!". The pet store has since closed. I suspect they weren't that nice to him and that's why he's so jittery.

Spike's Wise Thoughts

R.I.P. Spike

I spoke to Jason today who told me that Spike died today. It was very sad news. Poor Spike has been in pretty poor health recently. He had some skin issues and later what appeared to be a prostate infection. That never cleared up and it was feared that he had prostate cancer. He also had a large tumor on one of his hind legs. It was getting harder and harder for him to walk and he was in more and more pain so Jason decided it was unfair to ask him to continue to be so uncomfortable.

Spike was a true friend. He never judged me and was always happy to see me no matter what. He was always honest and he really managed to inspire everyone who met him. If he didn't like you, he wouldn't pretend to. I like to say he made am impression on everyone he met, either emotional or dental.

We lit a candle for Spike tonight. I'm glad he's no longer in pain and that I can finally stop worrying about him. He will always be my special little guy.

Thanks for 13 wonderful years, Spike.

I love you.

My mom got this email today when her Dad saw my dogster page.

"Wednesday, August 27, 2008 3:28:35 PM
just checked out Spikes web page. the very first picture at the top is
grossly misleading. he looks like a dog philosopher contemplating the
universe when really he is thinking about where to poop next. his
best picture is his very first where he is a puppy and looks all bug
-eyed and deformed. he turned out pretty good though. one thing for
sure, Spike is not a hypocrite. if he doesn't like you he won't
pretend he does. if he's pissed off, he lets you know right away.
Spike is honest in a way that is sorely lacking in a good many humans,
especially those involve in POLITICS. everybody take care.

A visit with Jason

So, my mom got married on August 8th, 2008 and her brother came out to California for the wedding. It was a small ceremony at the courthouse and sadly I wasn't invited, but I was very happy to see Jason. Jason lived with mom and me in Philly and has always been one of my favorite humans. He feeds me chicken and I actually enjoy it when he gives me baths. My only complaint is that he takes me on longer walks than I like, but he's usually happy to carry me when I get tired.

Mom's getting rounder lately and it's harder for her to take me on walks. She's pregnant (whatever that means) so she's getting bigger and having some trouble keeping up with me. Jason invited me to visit with him back in Philadelphia and I was very excited to go. Jason and I always have lots of fun and he takes really good care of me. I know my mommy will miss me, but I'll be back "when the baby arrives" (whatever that means).

I'll have new photos to post soon.
