Yesterday my family was very sad for me. It was time for me to go wait for them in another place. I'd like for them to remember me with this poem:
If It Should Be (Author unknown)
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should wake me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle can't be won.
You will be sad : I understand
Don't let your grief stay your hand
For this day, more than all the rest
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We've had so many years
What is to come will hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes, please let me go.
I know in time you too will see
It is a kindness you do for me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Do not grieve that it should be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We've been close -we two- these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
With much love, Carmel

Almost a year and a half ago the Vet told my Mom that I only had about 4 months to live. Well, look at me now!
I'm lumpy all over on the outside and have some tumors on the inside. I can barely see or hear and sometimes my hind quarters give out and I have to take a break before I can get up. But I'm alive and happy! My sister goes outside with me and I follow her around to do the necessary things. Then when it's time to come in, she lies down on the carpet in front of the 2 steps into the house and barks at me to get me to climb up those stairs. It works every time.
I'm really getting old but my quality of life is still good and I'm greatly loved. Thanks to all of you for the birthday wishes!
Love, Carmel

Today is my birthday and I'm excited as a 14 year old can be! My family loves me and that's all I'll ever need.
I'm getting older and Mom is pretty sad about that but we still have so much fun together. One of my little sister's, Baylee, is a tracking dog and when she loses track of the time and forgets to come home, Mom and I go out and I find her. My nose has always worked really good and I find her everytime!
To all my friends on Dogster and even our cat, thank you for the birthday wishes and take good care of your loving families.
