Arrival Story:
I was Nemo's foster mom for a month. I volunteer at the local animal shelter. Nemo had been in the shelter for more than 8 months, he came into the shelter badly neglected, having been severely malnourished. It effected his muscle development and he had trouble walking. He got a lot better at the shelter with good food and some love, but was still having a hard time because of all the concrete: sleeping and playing on concrete. (Nemo always got the playtime outside with other dogs because he was the best playmate!) The tops of Nemo's feet were patchy where the hair had rubbed off from his feet dragging while he walked on the concrete and his pads would occasionall bleed too. I took Nemo home for only about three weeks where he was the star of the household. I think he was able to finally play and be a puupy so he had a blast (My couch and rug are no better for it, but we are) Nemo's walking got much better in the few weeks that he was at my house, so much so that we couldn't believe how he could jump back and forth from couch to couch, no problem. Perhaps that is not the best thing to teach a foster dog, but he had fun. Nemo was adopted a few weeks ago by a really nice family who saw a picture of him on our shelter website, saw that he had "special needs" and wanted to give a great dog a home. yea!
