Arrival Story:
Hawkeye came to me as a sick puppy of 3 months old. I went by the shelter one day in Lubbock Texas as I had just lost my Dauch Willie at 15 year 5 months prior to that. I missed having a Dach around and though it would not hurt to check. When I got there , they had three Red Dach but we were not allowed to even ask about them. They then took me to Hawkeyes cage and there was this tiny little sickly pup in the cage just a shaking. They sent me to the play room and gathered him up and let me play with him,. I must have spent an hour there. He would sit and bark and jump in my lap and run all over the room. Like a bullet you could not see he was sick. I finally had to take him back to the cage and as I put him in he cried and cried. I finally said Little Man I need to get the funds and I will be back. I told them to hold him I would be back the next day. When I got there they told me I could not take him he was set to be Nutered, Oh did I do some yelling cause after I talked to a care giver it was determin he has destemper or was in the beginning of it. I thre a fit and told they were not going to Nuter a 3 month old pup that was sick cause if they did putting him under would send him full blown. I called the next day they still would not let me adopt him, I said OK what about foster care? They agreed to this but I had to pay for every thing, I had no problem with that cause I was going to have to either way. I went back to get him, boy was he so sad and as he followed the girl on the leash his head was hung low and his tail was between his legs. I looked at him and said loud enough for him to hear come on My Little Man lets go home. He jerked the lead oout of her hands and ran right to me. After going to our vet she said he was in the starting stages of Distemper she said there was nothing she could do till he went full blown, she gave me some meds for him and I aske about herbs. She siad they are learning doses of Vit C help them get through this so this is what we did. Hawkeye beat the Distemper. He is still my little bullet that likes to run every where.
