Leave a bone for Dekker (in loving memory)

Nicknames: Dekker Dog

Badges: Quick Bio:
Likes: Being with me, herding the cats and chickens, long hikes.

Pet-Peeves: Fireworks

Favorite Toy: The Chickens (which he never would hurt, only herd)

Favorite Food: Cat food

Favorite Walk: Garland Park, Donner Lake, anywhere with me.

Best Tricks: Looking at you with sad eyes.

Arrival Story: Dekker crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on May 24, 2000. Dekker was a gift to me when he was 4 months old.He wa born on Clint Eastwood's ranch in Carmel Valley. His father was from Scotland, so he was a little different looking than most border collies I had seen. He was my best friend and constant companion for 12 years. He was partially deaf and was very calm for a border collie. During most of his life I managed the spay neuter clinic at the local SPCA and he went to work with me every day and was the official "greeter" at the clinic. He loved to hike and we spent many hours together doing just that. His border collie instincts also made him love to "herd", and he herded my cats and chickens whenever he had the chance. I always wondered how he would do with sheep? Sorry buddy you never got the chance . . .I very sadly and very suddenly lost him to cancer of the spleen (hemangiosarcoma) when he was 12 years old. I am very grateful for the 12 years this precious boy was at my side and for the unconditional love he always showed me. Dekker, I hope you have met some sheep there at the Bridge . . .

Bio: WHEN A DOG FINALLY PASSES ON, THERE IS AN EMPTINESS, A PLACE IN OUR HEARTS THAT WILL NEVER BE FILLED AGAIN IN EXACTLY THE WAY IT WAS. BECAUSE NO MATTER HOW MANY DOGS WE HAVE OVER THE YEARS, EACH IS UNIQUE, A FRIEND, AND WHEN THEY GO AWAY, OUR LIVES ARE CHANGED FOREVER IN SO MANY SMALL WAYS.

Mom has been taking my brother Wesley to a new place to hike. It is goverment owned land and every spring a large flock of sheep is allowed to come in and graze the grass. She can't help but think of me every time she sees the sheep and wishes I was there with her so I could see them. Yesterday she even got to meet the 3 border collies that watch over the sheep. Again, it made her think of me. Well Mom, don't be sad, because I am there with you . . .

I loved the fall. It meant Mom taking me on lots of hikes. Cold crisp mornings. Lots of beautiful leaves on the tress, crispy leaves on the ground to walk through. Wet and muddy paws to be cleaned when it rained. Yummy turkey at Thanksgiving. Lots of warm memories with Mom . . .
