Arrival Story:
We were at Rosemary Warren's Greyhound shelter in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland, on a rainy day in September 2006. Lily was brought in and the sight of her brought us all to tears. She was emaciated, and bald from mange, her skin showing pink and bloody from all the scratching she did. She was hardly able to walk and needed alot of mediacl attention right away. She was so uncomfortable and miserable she could not lay down on anything that wasn't soft enough for her skin. We swaddled her ina fleece blanket I had brought over from Old Navy, as it was the softest material we could find. She lived in her blanket for a few days and was very unstable for a while....her health eventually slowly began to improve. She began growing back some of her fur, beautiful white with black ticking, and demonstrating some spirit and grew responsive to affection. She is quite grown up now and is ready to make the journey from Ireland to New Jersey where she will find a forever home somewhere nearby. We will foster her until the time comes and I'm sure we will enjoy getting to know her and having her in our home. Updates to follow.

LILY UPDATE! On February 17, 2007, Lily arrived at JFK airport and is currently residing at my mom's house in New Jersey. I just spent her first 5 days in America with her and we have had great fun. She and Rose became fast friends and worship the ground each other walks on. She slept in bed with me every night and woke up every morning thrilled to be here, rolling on her back and pedalling her legs in happiness. She is learning about things such as going to the bathroom outside, playing with toys, and waiting patiently for her food. Her fur is thick and silky, possibly the softest fur on any of the dogs I have known. She knows her name is Lily, which is a big improvement over her old name in her old life---Pinky, after the gastly state of her skin. See Lily's Diary for the full story as it appears on the Limerick Animal Welfare Website of her journey back to health and her new life LILY UPDATE: Lily is now completely settled and happy in her new home in Montclair, NJ. She lives with a family that includes two sensitive and smart young boys, Simon and Gabriel. Her mother is a published author and her father is an editor with McGraw-Hill. She is still Rose's favorite playmate, and comes over for playdates as often as she can. Every time we see Lily, we are amazed by the incredible recovery she has made and her tenatious love of life and all the fun it offers. She is a spunky, loyal, loving girl and an example of what wonderful creatures Greyhounds are.
