Arrival Story:
We found Poncho over the Internet (www.petfinder.org). He was the only BlueRoan English Cocker spaniel I had ever seen posted anywhere for Rescue. My first own dog was/is a Blue Roan English Cocker Spaniel named Lucy. Lucy is my Baby ( I brought her with me all the way from Austria/Europe when I moved to Canada). I was so amazed that an English Cocker Spaniel needed rescue. That usually does not happen, because anybody would take in an E. Cocker. Aut of all my dogs any of my friends would take Lucy anytime!!!! She is just that amazing dog, just perfect and always obedient and sweet! When my husband went to pick up Poncho from the rescue, all we knew was that the owners wife was sick with cancer and the man could not look after her AND the dog. Apparently Poncho was 4 years old, but when I first saw him I knew he was at least 10!!! HE was suffering from Seizures on a regular basis (which nobody had told us at the rescue). We had to learn a lot about what to do and how to help him when he had one. It always happened at night around 3am.....every couple of weeks. We had to lock him up in a cage so he would not fall off furniture and hurt himself while sleeping! Poor Poncho. He also had a sever Yeast Infection in both his ears and itchy/yeasty toes. His eyes where inflamed and itchty. We changed his diet over to raw food and his symptoms slowly disappeared and he started feeling much better. The time between his seizures got longer and longer until he finally was seizure free!!!! Sadly he has developed some lumps around his lymphknots and the Vet suggested to leave them alone. So now we are trying to make Poncho's life as fun as possible for him. HE is such a sweet boy and only deserves the best!!!
