My last entry talked about missing Maggie and I realized that was 2 years ago! Perhaps you are wondering what happened to her? Well it was quite an adventure!
Momma and I spent 3 weeks living at the cabin...well, three weeks off and on while trying to coax miss Maggie back home. We even set a live trap for her and she would have nothing of it. She was bound and determined to be on her own. The fox in the area though really enjoyed their brief stays in the trap because they were getting some fabulous meals!! The good news was that she stayed close to the cabin so we could keep tabs on her. She was getting thinner and thinner. The last time we saw her she had porcupine quills in her face and her ribs were sticking out.
Mom and I had given up hope. Mom spend the final night up on the mountain with her trying to get Maggie to come to her. Maggie was curious, but mom couldn't get her. So after a few hours, Mom said to her: "Maggie - I can't do this anymore. If you want to come live with me you are going to have to get in that trap so I can take you home!" and then we left. Mom drove all the way back to Denver with a very heavy and broken heart.
The next morning, Mom returned to work. At 8:00 a.m., the animal control team called Mom and said "We GOT HER!!!" Mom was so elated!!! She drove right back up there at that moment.
When Mom walked into the rescue center, Maggie looked at her and wagged her little tail. She was so happy to see her and couldn't wait to get in the car and go home. She has never left Mom's side since then.
It's rare for a story like that to end happily, but we all feel so fortunate that Maggie is such a survivor.
