Leave a bone for Essie Mae

Nicknames: M'Mae, Maeus, Chubby Beloved, Barkzilla, Miss Mae, Stinky Jones, Canine Vacuum, Guppy Puppy (since she's always belly-up, kinda like a dead guppy), Princess Fartaround (takes forever to take her morning walk, she does...so much p-mail to read...)

 Quick Bio:
Likes: Boy dogs, walks in the park, stalking people for snacks, playing with "her" cats, rolling in dead smelly things, belly rubs and butt scratches

Pet-Peeves: Going to the vet, people who run up to her, being told "no", someone blowing in her ear

Favorite Toy: After years of ignoring her toys, Ess has fallen in love with her squeaky hoagie

Favorite Food: Chicken, french fries, Cheetos, Greenies, carrots, cat food, peanut butter, anything else that isn't nailed to the floor.

Favorite Walk: Anywhere she can be off-leash

Best Tricks: She can pee on command - very handy in the winter!

Arrival Story: Essie was in the right place at the right time. I had haunted the shelter for weeks looking for "that face". When we met, I thought she'd make a perfect therapy dog for my clients - she was so sweet and mellow - then I got her home and realized I'd adopted the Tasmanian Devil Dog. I worship this dog, but a therapist she ain't! We bonded like cement and have been inseparable since.

Bio: Essie was placed in the shelter twice , once by the people who'd raised her from a pup, then by people who "returned" her after 6 days, saying she didn't get along with their other dog. (Can you say "Alpha Girl"?) Now she's found her forever home, surrounded by "her" cats, her mom, and the bazillion friends she's made at the park. Essie would like to thank her trainer, Jody,
her "psychotherapist" David and her human and canine friends for making her a respectable member of the doggy community! Thanks also to Barb for the "glamour shots" and to Kiera for assisting the computer-deprived!

Mom pointed out that I haven't written in, like, FOREVER, so I thought I'd drop a line!! It's been a pretty busy year - we've been living in the country, which I love, we've seen weight losses and gains, (Mom's lost 50 lbs, I've gained 7) and I had a new boyfriend, Moose, who recently got hit by a car and died. (Mom's note - taking care of a grieving Aussie is heartbreaking - She was so tired and mopey. She didn't want to play or eat. She's better now - yesterday she played hard with her friend Rajah, a red Aussie, and has spent the time since flaked out on the bed. Since it's raining today and the Queen doesn't like rain anyway, it's all good.) We heard from my old friend Willey today and Mom says it's time to go back to the golf course and walk. I am sooooo psyched!! I looove the golf course!!! Mom says it looks like we'll be able to go this weekend - I sure hope so!! I keep seeing this dog at the park who kind of looks like Wills, so I get all excited and run over, then find out it's not him. Mom says she thinks he and his parents have been out of the country at a dig - they're archaeologists, whatever that means - I'm just sooo jealous that Willey gets to dig!! (Mom's note - try explaining the difference between "a dig" and "being allowed to dig" to a dog who's part badger.) We're going to invite my friends Tess, Bridie and Cosmo to walk with us, too. Cosmo's not a boyfriend, but he is a special friend - he speaks dog Spanish as well as dog English!! I think that's soooo cool - I wish Mom could yell at me in more than one language....

M'Mae:
The day I saw your face in the shelter was the best day of my life. I fell instantly in love! I wake up every day so happy to see your sweet smiling face. You've been there through my triumphs and tragedies, always willing to lick away my tears or to celebrate in the snow. You're The World's Best Girl Dog and I love you!!
Mom:
I knew when I saw you at the shelter that you would always love me and keep me safe. I fell instantly in love, too! I'm so happy to spend my life watching the house and taking care of you and the kitties. Thank you so much for allowing me to be silly ol' me and for forgiving me when I do wrong. You are The Source of All Things Cookie and I love you!! This is a special Tail of Devotion

Well, Mom and I stopped by the vet the other day. Not for me - I'm fine, as always - but for my cat Zonk. He's got "diabetes", which mom says means the sugar levels in his blood are a little askew. I'm just really glad I don't have "diabetes" - poor Zonk gets a shot two times a day!! I hate needles - yuk! (Mom's note: She's shuddering as we speak. She REALLY hates needles!!) I came along when we went to the vet for Zonk's "glucose test", whatever that means. While Zonk got his blood taken (yikes - more needles!!) , Mom popped me on the scale. People have told mom that I have a waist now, and mom says I don't have that sign on my butt that reads "Wide Load" anymore, but that stupid scale says I haven't lost a pound!! The vet tried to make me and mom feel better by saying that maybe it's muscle mass - I sure hope so. Mom and I will have to go back to the vet pretty often til Zonk is "stabilized", so we'll keep hopping on the scale. I'm trying to burn calories in the meantime by curling up around Zonk and giving him very thorough baths! (Mom's note: No matter what the cats may think sometimes, Ess just loves them. The looks on their faces when she's licking them silly is priceless!!)
