Being with people.
Any thumping noise, such as a car door slamming next door....or surprises.
Anything at all, so far.
Around the block or just about anywhere.
Jumping into your lap.
LATEST NEWS: Barley has gained a few pounds since we rescued him, but his bounding temperament is just the same. (June, 2007)
We had "lost" Mister MacDuff, our Lakeland Terrier, to a neurological disease a few weeks ago and were lonesome....as was our other dog, Siena, the Golden Retriever. After searching the Humane Society and Animal Control Center many, many times, I finally found Barley sitting in a cage. He had been an Owner Release. He immediately came to the cage front looking for attention. Someone else was looking at him and was talking to one of the staff about him. I asked her if she was adopting him. She said she was still looking. THAT was my opening. I asked to take him to the pen outside to play with him and the rest is history. He has been with us for a week and we are all doing fine. Of course, he wants to sleep in our bed with us. That is OK, except for the occasional middle-of-the-night bark. Yikes!
LATEST, LATEST NEWS: Barley has been with us for over a year and is the life of the family. His boundless energy and love is beyond compare. How could anyone have neglected him? He has gained about 6 pounds and now weighs about 16 pounds.
LATEST, LATEST NEWS: Barley and I passed our Delta Society evaluation and are now a registered Pet Therapy Pet Partner team. We visited children in domestic violence shelters, family shelters, Boys & Girls Clubs, and other places where children were exposed to violence. His unconditional love of them worked wonders. After moving to Talent, OR, in 2011, Barley continued his pet therapy work at The Family Nurturing Center in Medford, OR, where he works with 4 year-olds who need his "special" treatment.
Barley has a poodle face but a dachshund body and tail, so we think that is the mix. Doesn't matter, though. We just like him as Barley.
Get ready! I'm jumping into your arms!
