Arrival Story: I had my dog Jack, a min pin, for 2 years and after all he had gone thru physically, I wanted to get him a companion. The girls in one of my classes at High School told me about Petfinders, so I went looking for another min pin. However, as life so often is, that isnt what happened. I found this page describing a Pommie, no picture and I was drawn to this dog, unseen. I believe in fate so I followed my heart. Seems he was from a puppy mill in New Jersey and since he wasnt pure Black like the man wanted they were going to send him off to a kill center. A woman came along and saw him in the back rooms, all alone and he seemed to be very friendly. She had a fondness for them as she had several, but she usually rescued only bigger dogs, but this one just got to her. The guy let him go with her. She found out that since he was caged completely after he was weaned he had no toys, no one to play with him, to talk to him, and he found a piece of wood and it punctured his upper palete. She got him to a vet and got it fixed and posted him on Petfinders. Still caged for long periods of time because she had to work 2 jobs just to support her rescue of animals he had never played outside or had toys. Well that changed when we met up with her around my town which was where her mom lived. My son and I went to check him out and we just loved him, even though he pee'd on me because he was so excited. Still we knew this was part of our family and took him home. I have a very large back yard all fenced in with lots of grass and landscaped. I put him on the ground and all he did was look up at me. So I brought out Jack, my other dog. After the initial sniffing I would tell jack to go find his bunnies and he would take off. Tiki looked up and I said go get the bunnies baby and he ran towards Jack and he ran for almost an hour. Round and round the yard, sniffed everything, rolled in the grass. Then we had to house break him cos he pee'd and pooped on everything and everywhere. Though understandable cos he went in his cage whenever he had too. So we bought a small wash vac but everyone was getting very frustrated. The walks increased. I think Tiki watched Jack, like a pup would learn from him mom and in time he didnt squat outside but lifted his leg. YAY one hurdle, but he still pee'd on the trash can, the carpet etc. So we put in doggie doors to give him access anytime and boy did that do the trick. No more accidents. Then we went to the vets to have him fixed and he also had to have 7 teeth pulled cos no one gave him toys or played with him so he didnt loose his teeth like other dogs might. I felt soooo bad but knew it was for the best. He does carry his toys outside and buries them to keep them away from Jack, but he is another blessing and I dont know what life would be like without either of our dogs. He has the grey a bit in his black face but it makes him look wise and we love him. TY Petfinders and the girl who rescued him. God Bless. I now have become an animal activists. I make sure I call my Rep and Senator when dog issues come up. I write letters. I have added all animals to the list of those that need a voice when no one else will speak up.
This is what my dogs gave to me.
