Arrival Story:
I found this soaking wet, black and tan cocker spaniel wandering around my condo complex. I live near a busy intersection, so I called out to him to come to me. He did, and he never left my side after that. The dog had no microchip, so I had to take him to the pound, but I put first dibs on him. The 4 days passed, and no owner claimed him, so I went to adopt him. Originally I had planned to turn him over to a rescue group, but even before I went to adopt him, I named him Milo. It is amazing how immediate the bond is between Milo and me.

Bio:
The pound vet looked at him, and even though the dog is only 4 years old, he has cataracts in both eyes. He needs surgery, but cataract surgery is becoming more commonplace, so he'll be fine. Milo was neutered at the pound, so I can't bathe him until the stitches are out. Meanwhile, I've got a bushy, rather smelly pup, but he's the cutest thing I've ever seen. He has so much fur that his little legs look like pom poms! He has a very winsome personality and he is rather excitable, like a good little cocker. But when he stands up on his hind legs, he only comes up to my knees, so he's rather easy to manage!

There are two photos of me with Baxter, the cat. Yes, I'm on leash, but it's a very loose leash. We like each other and sniff noses. So if the cat is used to dogs, we'd probably get along just fine. Oh, and I'll have a new video of me with the cat too!

I Need A New Home!

My dad needs to find me a new home in 30 days. He loves me (coz really, I'm very adorable), but his living situation doesn't permit him to keep me.

I'm very affectionate and love to be with people, especially men. I consider myself a man's dog, and I love just hangin' out with the guys. I tend to ignore women, and gravitate towards men.

I love riding in the car. Dad puts me in the back of his car, and I'm so happy just to look out the window at the passing scenery. Sometimes, my dad would take me into work, and I'd sleep in my crate with the door open, just content to be near him. Later, I got so good, that Dad didn't need to bring my crate anymore. However, I do sleep with Dad in his bedroom - I consider it OUR bedroom - but he's in his bed, and I'm happy to be in my crate.

I love my walks. Dad takes me on hour-long walks every night with Sable and her mom. We love it and have the best time. I sniff everything! Gotta do it, ya know! The only thing is that I'm leery of approaching cars; I'll lunge at them. Dad discovered I do so much better if he gets me onto the grass when we see headlights coming towards us because he knows I'm afraid of them.

I've been living at Nikki, Parker and Sable's house. When Dad found me, it was pretty apparent that my previous owners just stuck me out in the backyard and didn't interact with me very much. I probably had very little socialization with people or other dogs. I needed to learn some manners, so Dad took me to puppy class. I could use more training, but I do learn pretty quickly. I wasn't even housebroken when he found me, but I'm much better now.

I love playing with Sable, who is a GSD mix. I fit underneath her legs, which is pretty funny. There's lots of video of us on Sable's Dogster page; I'll have to get Sable's mom to post them on my page too! I'm a lot like Sable, friendly but pushy, which is probably why we get along.

I'm very affectionate with Dad and Sable's mom. I love attention, and Dad has done a lot to help me get over my food aggression. However, when there is a high-value treat or chew around, Sable has learned to leave me alone.

I can be a bit moody, however. I get a certain look on my face and that's when everyone knows not to try to force me to do something. If I jump up on the couch, the best thing to do is to throw a treat down on the floor. I'll forget all about wanting to be on the couch in my quest for that yummy treat.

Dad signed me up with Critters in Need Pet Rescue, and has been taking me to the Huntington Beach PetSmart on Saturdays. However, being surrounded by all those dogs have proven to be a bit much for me. I would do so much better to meet a dog one-on-one in a quiet atmosphere, than to be overwhelmed by all these other dogs. But everyone says what a gorgeous dog I am.

My dad took me to an eye specialist coz I have cataracts in both eyes. The vet said that they're mild cataracts right now, so I can still see pretty well. I don't let it hold me back at all. Cataract surgery will improve my eyesight, although I'll never see perfectly because I've had cataracts since I was a puppy. Sable's mom thinks it might improve my disposition, as she thinks that my tendency to nip stems partly from the fact that I can't see as well as other pups.

Dad says I play with kids while at PetSmart and that I'm good with them, but I am rather nippy, like most cockers. Children over 12 would be better, but Sable's mom thinks I'd be best in a home without kids. Most cockers are best in a home without kids, and I'm really no exception. I don't like hands coming towards me, so it's safer to be in a kid-free environment.

I chase Sable's mom's three old cats, but in a playful way. I've also met her new cat Baxter, who had been an outdoor kitty; he's streetwise, so he doesn't run from me. We're pretty friendly and we sniff noses. I'm always on leash, but still, we like each other. However, unless the cats are really used to dogs, it probably would be easier if there were no cats around.

I would probably get along with another dog, but the introductions should be on neutral territory, and taken slowly. The best dog would be a friendly dog who doesn't mind hard play, and who won't fight me over a chew or treat. Dog parks or beaches wouldn't really be the best place for me. Too overwhelming.

I'm really a great dog. If you've ever had a cocker before, and really know the breed, you would be my ideal parent!

I'm hoping to find my forever home soon. And it would be SO wonderful if they'd let Sable and me have play dates, as we truly love each other.

Griffith Park!

Sable and I went to Griffith Park today! Boy, did we have a blast. I wiggled in the car the whole long drive up, but I was so exhausted on the way back, that I finally chilled. In fact, I have to admit that for much of the hike, I became a 30-pound backpack!

Hah! I wasn't really that tired, but it was sure nice to be carried! BOL!

After that, we all went to the Park Bench Cafe. I did really good, but Sable was still a bit tense. Oh well. That's girls for ya!

Woof!
