Yeah!!!!
I recued a cat an dog!
PEPPER ANN
It was a crappy day when momma and I opened the door for our daily walk, mom didn't know it yet but she was about to step on her first rescue. Sitting right in front our door was a 2 month old purebreed calico (most likely a stray - mate that wondered off from it's litter). I wasn't too sure about this new stranger, to be safe I had to check her out! that's when mom relalized something was amis. We brought her in out of the rain, dried her off, administered some liquids and rushed her off to the local shelter. and that's the story of how I saved my first stray PEPPER ANN...

Princess (AKA - FREEDOM)
One CRISP evening, on my nightly "frolic" (BOL) in the park, I bumped into an unlikely friend, Her name is now Princess (we call her freedom, because of how I found her). She appears to be a mixed (Red nose Pitbull / American Staffordshire) pup no more than 6 months old. from what mom and I can tell we think she was being tied up outside and chewed thru her leash and collar, and escaped to the park... with much coaxing mom was able to gain her trust and bring her back to the car. We are in the process of posting flyers and Ad's to help us find her owners, if not mom will take her to the vet, get her records straight and help her find a new forever home....
In the meantime, I am enjoying the company and new found friendship. We play a lot, fight a lot, pounce around, and share our toys... it's only been 1wk and it feels as if we've known each other all our lives. I wuv u mom!!

The earliest "fossil" finds of dogs date back to 10,000 BC.

The oldest American breed is the American Foxhound. This dates back to 1650!

The Afghan Hound is mentioned in writings as far back as 4000 B.C., and its name can be translated as "baboon" or "monkey-faced hound." Despite the unflattering name, he was a favorite of royalty.

Developed in Egypt about 5,000 years ago, the greyhound breed was known before the ninth century in England, where it was bred by aristocrats to hunt such small game as hares.

In the late 1800's, Lassie type Collies were known as Scottish Sheepdogs.

Dachshunds were bred to fight badgers in their dens.

The dachshund is one of the oldest dog breeds in history (dating back to ancient Egypt.) The name comes from one of its earliest uses - hunting badgers. In German, Dachs means "badger," Hund is "hound."

The first dog to star in an American movie was Jean the Vitagraph Dog, a Border Collie mix, who made his first film in 1910.

The first seeing-eye dog was presented to a blind person on April 25, 1938.

Who first thought of using dogs to guide blind people? At the end of World War I, the German government trained the first guide dogs to assist blind war veterans.

At the end of the Beatles' song "A Day in the Life", an ultrasonic whistle, audible only to dogs, was recorded by Paul McCartney for his Shetland sheepdog.

Dogs are mentioned 14 times in the Bible.

The worlds heaviest as well as longest dog ever recorded was an Old English Mastiff named Zorba. In 1989, Zorba weighed 343 lbs and was 8 feet 3 inches long from nose to tail! I use the past tense here because I don't have recent data on Zorba. Lets hope he is doing well.

The tallest dog on record was named Shamgret Danzas. He was 42 inches tall (at the shoulder!) and weighed 238 lbs.

The smallest dog in history was a tiny Yorkie from Blackburn, England. At two years of age and fully grown this little dude was an incredible 2.5 inches tall by 3.75 inches long! He weighed only 4 ounces! HE was approximately the size of a matchbox.

The oldest dog that has been reliably documented was an Australian cattle-dog named Bluey. He was put to sleep at the age of 29 years and 5 months!

The Dog Days of Summer

The "dog days" are defined by Webster as:
1) the period between early July and early September when the hot sultry weather of summer usually occurs in the northern hemisphere, and 2) a period of stagnation or inactivity

The ancient Romans associated the hottest time of the year with Sirius, which is also known as the Dog Star; it forms part of the constellation Canis Major, or "the Big Dog."

Noticing that the Dog Star rises and sets with the sun in summer, the Romans thought the bright star boosted the heat of the sun, producing the hottest time of the year.

"He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever - in case I need him. And I expect I will - as I always have. He is just my dog." - Gene Hill

"When you feel dog tired at night, it may be because you've growled all day long." - Unknown

"To err is human, to forgive, canine."

"I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive." - Gilda Radner

"Yesterday I was a dog. Today I'm a dog. Tomorrow I'll probably still be a dog. Sigh! There's so little hope for advancement." - Snoopy

"Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of ther universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made." - Roger Caras

A DOG'S SOUL

Every dog must have a soul, somewhere deep inside
Where all his hurts and grievances are buried with his pride.
Where he decides the good and bad, the wrong way from the right,
And where his judgement carefully is hidden from our sight.

A dog must have a secret place, where every thought abides,
A sort of close acquaintance that he trusts in and confides.

And when accused unjustly for himself, He cannot speak,
Rebuked, He finds within his soul, the comfort he must seek.

He'll love, tho'he is unloved, and he'll serve tho'badly used,
And one kind word will wipe away the times when he's abused.

Altho' his heart may break in two, his love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog an understanding Soul!

Joke of the Day

An amazing talking dog
A man and his dog walk into a bar. The man proclaims, "I'll bet you a round of drinks that my dog can talk."

Bartender: "Yeah! Sure...go ahead."

Man: "What covers a house?"

Dog: "Roof!"

Man: "How does sandpaper feel?"

Dog: "Rough!"

Man: "Who was the greatest ball player of all time?"

Dog: "Ruth!"

Man: "Pay up. I told you he could talk."

The bartender, annoyed at this point, throws both of them out the door. Sitting on the sidewalk, the dog looks at the guy and says, "or is the greatest player Mantle?"

Hooray for me!

Hello Ladies and Gentledogs,
I got a baby brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This past Sunday mom and I went to Pet Smart for a Grooming appointment, and whilst mom was shoping , she came across the NSAL who were there with kittens and puppies up for adoption.... Michael was the last kitten left, and mommy could not resist. So by the time I was done I was suprised with the newest member of our family.

My cousin Baby spent 4 days at our house ... (Fun, Fun, Fun)... and so we didn't really pay much attention to Michael, good thing too, because when we finally did, he chased us away... he only wanted to cuddle with mommy (what a brat), he started coming around late afternoon on Monday though. Well Baby Left last night, and this morning Michael actually wanted to play! I'm keeping my paws crossed, because I really want to be able to pounce around with him.

Excellent

Last night mommy told me that if I listen, train well, and be a good boy, when I'm 6/ 7 months old she will get me a brother / sister. boyyyyyyy !!!!! I can't wait.... you know what, I'm gonna try my hardest tooo. This morning when I woke up, mommy and I went through our normal routine - eat, play, train, play.... I was sooo good, mommy gave me back bed privileges (yes... I was grounded - long story). I think there might be something to this good boy stuff after all. Well I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
