Arrival Story: Baby Merlin's story began more then 10 years ago, when a Golden Labrador puppy was brought home, with a view that she would be wonderful friend to my 2 children then aged 14 and 6. Lady came home and settled right in, she was naughty as all puppies are, but she had a wonderful character and temperament The children loved her and she loved them. However, I thought it would be a good idea to get Lady her own doggy friend, so off to the dog pound we went and found a small very mixed breed male named Monty. At first Lady hated Monty with a passion, then as the days and weeks passed, they became truly wonderful friends, completely inseparable, they were the epitome of true friendship. The years passed, then sadly in 2005 Lady died, Monty was broken hearted, crying and howling, nothing could console him whatsoever. Then one day my daughter came home from school and told me of a mixed breed GSD named Bella, who would visit her school and play with the children, but because the owner was moving overseas Bella was put into the dog pound. I thought Bella would maybe be a good friend to Monty. Bella joined the family, and again she has a wonderful character and personality. Bella is quite a large dog, and very boisterous, always wanting to play. Sadly Monty missed his old pal Lady too much, and no other doggy pal would replace her, he simply wasn't interested. Over a year passed since Lady died, all Monty wants to do is eat and sleep, he shows no interest in anyone or anything, no amount of fussing over him revives the spark he had with Lady. Its so sad to watch, he simply wants to be left alone. Bella on the other hand wants to play, and kept pestering Monty, leading to a lot of snapping and snarling. I thought perhaps a puppy would be a good pal to Bella. Then one day totally out of the blue there was an advertisement in the local paper, 6 pure bred GSD puppies for sale, 6 weeks old. A quick phone call confirmed that all 6 were still available so I could have the pick of the litter. I was greeted by the mum and dad of the puppies, both beautiful GSD's with wonderful temperaments. On being shown the puppies, one stood out, he was bigger then the rest, quite bold and very confident. I picked him up and looked at him, he looked at me, then began chewing my moustache, much to the amusement of my daughter. I knew there and then that he was the one. He was immediately named Merlin and taken home where he was introduced to Bella and Monty. Bella wagged her tail, but Monty looked at Merlin and walked off. Merlin has only been with us for a few days, since Friday 12th January in fact, already he and I are bonding very strongly. I take him for his walks around my couple acres of land, he walks right beside me, and comes when he is called with a lovely wagging tail, as if to say, Here I am dad, don't leave me behind. Bella looks at Merlin as if to say, This is MY house kid, so behave. I can see the two of them becoming truly wonderful friends just as Lady and Monty were. Bella and Monty are spoiled as much as possible and included in any activity by the whole family, so neither of them will ever feel left out. Merlin has stopped his crying at night he has settled down, and in the morning he is sitting by the bedroom door, waiting to say Good Morning. I will update baby Merlin's page on a regular basis, so his doggy friends can see how he is growing and getting along. Proud of him? You bet I am!

Good morning Merlin my very special sweet and wonderful gentle giant.
MERLIN MERLIN MERLIN. Your diary has again been chosen as one of today's picks. Well done my boy I am so proud of you.
Its bright and sunny again today with very little cloud cover and thankfully the high winds have dropped, the high winds keep pushing over my bench and every morning I have to set it on its feet. I hate these high winds, they are a pain in the neck. It would make a good run and play day for you my boy, you could give Spud a few lessons on manners. It was highly amusing yesterday, Mia my Granddaughter wanted to give Spud a dry dog biscuit, she went to give it to him and he ran off, closely followed by Mia shouting “DOGGY, DOGGY, DOGGY,” and holding the biscuit out for him. In the end I grabbed Spud and held him while Mia gave him the biscuit. Spud seemed quite surprised and took the biscuit, Mia then said “TA, TA.” and walked off quite happily. It was quite funny.
Mike is having problems with his car, the starter motor has packed up and he can't get a new one, even from the main agent, if we can't get one the car will have to be scrapped, which is a pity as its in beautiful condition. When he goes to UK I was going to give it to my daughter Melissa. The only thing we could come up with, there is a good chance he will be able to get a new one in the UK, so he could send it surface mail, or try and get one off of an accident damaged car in a scrap yard. Mike is going to UK in less then four weeks, so its left to me to sort it all out. Its a pain in the neck, I don't need these hassles at my age.
I guess its time for you to go play and have some more fun with your buddies.
Please remember Merlin, I love you and I miss you so much.
Good morning Merlin my handsome, sweet and wonderful gentle giant.
Its a clear blue sky at the moment with no cloud, and thankfully no wind, just a gentle breeze rustling the leaves in the tree's. Its quite warm at the moment and I know its going to get hotter as the day passes.
Your mum took her little car into a body repair shop yesterday, when she told the owner how it happened he stated that the majority of the damage he repairs is down to gates hitting the bodywork. However, he wont be able to work on her car until the new year as everyone goes on leave tomorrow (Friday), he gave her a quote which considering the work needed to be done is very fair but sadly its an expense your mum didn't need. I know their work is very good from the repairs they did to my Jaguar, I couldn't tell where the damage was after they worked their magic.
Yesterday I went to the Land Rover main agents in Stellenbosch to have a look at Land Rover Defenders, I wasn't impressed at all, they didn't have one Defender in stock, all they had was Range Rovers and Discoveries. The salesman said that they had one Land Rover Defender as a demo, but its out on loan! What's wrong with Defenders that even a main agent don't stock them, but get them in if a customer orders one. Needless to say I wont be going back there. Its a pity as I have always had an affection for Land Rovers.
Anyway Merlin, its time that you went and had some fun with your buddies.
I do love you so much Merlin, I miss you so much my boy.
Good morning Merlin my sweet and wonderful gentle giant.
Its bright and sunny this morning and we are being hammered by very high winds, its not nice at all. As your mum was taking Mia to play school the wind slammed the gate onto her new little car, it hit on the edge of the drivers door. Your mum said that it hit so hard it pushed her car sideways, I thought she was exaggerating until I saw the gate, 2 1/2inch square tube was bent inwards by about an inch or so, so it really must have hit hard. Your mum is obviously upset, I felt so sorry for her, she loves her little car, but it is repairable and I know a good panel beater who will sort her car out so there will be no sign of any damage whatsoever. I am at a loss as to what I can do to prevent this happening again. I really hate this wind here Merlin, if I remember correctly you wasn't too fond of it either.
Mike still hasn't contacted the Ford main agent to book his car in for repair, it won't start even though the battery is charged, the only way to start it is to tow start it. I get so frustrated with Mike at times, he needs to get his priorities in order and sort his car out. Knowing Mike he will leave for UK and leave us to sort his car out. I didn't raise him to be like this, he's got so selfish lately. I tell you what Merlin, he's in for quite a big shock when he gets to UK and he has to start doing things for himself.
I guess its time for you to go play with your buddies my boy and have some more fun.
