Arrival Story:
Someone abandoned him at a vet clinic where my friend Leyla worked. I wasn't looking for a dog but he fit in my hand at the time, and he had a warm belly and gave kisses.

Pucker was an impulse adoption. I had never had a dog before and I didn't really know what I was doing in terms of training and socialization. In retrospect I know that I made a lot of mistakes. When he reached about a year and a half, he started to show signs of aggression. He would guard his food and his bed, and one time he even bit me. It got really bad really quickly; I was seriously scared of him for a few days. I took him to a veterinary behaviorist at UC Davis and she gave me a very strict training regimen to follow. It worked like a miracle. Within a few days his obedience was drastically improved, and within a month it seemed as though his personality had changed. He was more mellow, and accepted that my roommate and I ruled the house; it seemed like he trusted people again. There haven't been any signs of aggression in almost a year and his obedience is just about perfect. I have to work with him every day but he's a joy to have around again. So for all of you out there whose dogs have behavior issues, get help before you think of anything more drastic.

Uuuugh… I don’t feel so good. My tummy hurts too much to move. I’ll be under the desk if anyone wants to bring me some grass. Maybe if I clean my butt really well I’ll feel better…. Nope that didn’t help. Maybe some water. Refreshing but not worth the effort. I wish the bratling would stop bouncing around. Grrrrr. Maybe if I lay on my side…. No that makes it worse. Maybe if I stretch. Oh, there we go. That feels so much better. Yoga is the cure for all ills. Hmm... that's an interesting smell. Why is mamma opening the window? Doesn’t she know it’s cold in here? Why is she burning that stinky incense? Oh! Are we going outside now?

Fun in the Garden

Everybody knows how to be helpful digging holes in the garden. But did you know that you can also help eat all the warm tomatoes and strawberries? That way other animals don't come into the garden to eat them. It saves a lot of time that you would have to spend chasing squirrels and birds. You can also lick the bricks. That's always fun. I got the idea from the bratling, but she takes it one step further and tries to eat them and then mamma makes her go in the house. But if you just lick the bricks then mamma just laughs and you can do it for as long as you want.

The day I got food

Today was a good day. I woke up and I ate, I chased the bratling around the yard because she was there. Then I took a nap. I pulled mamma to the park and ate some grass. I got to climb the trees and spin around and steal the leash from the bratling. It wasn't too hot so I got to play for a really long time. Then, after we went home Sarah came over. She smelled all over like that other dog but she gave me food so I couldn't mind too much. She put the food on my paws and made me leave it, then I got to eat one of the pieces, I left the other because I am a GOOD DOG and she hadn't told me I could have it yet. Finally, after waiting forever, I figured that she forgot what we were doing so I ate the second piece real quick. Mamma left and I went to sleep, mamma came home and played with me and gave me MORE food to eat. She made me do all of my tricks and she pulled on my ears and she grabbed my paws and she stuck her hand in my mouth. I tolerated it because I knew that she had the food and I was really HUNGRY. she made me run up the stairs and down the stairs over and over. I don't know why... I've been climbing stairs since I was just a pup. But sometimes I just have to let her do what she wants, she's only human and I can't expect too much from her.
