Dood has a strongly dominant temperament. He's not aggressive but he does think he's king of the world. We had to get a dominant pup because our older dog is also strongly dominant (she is aggressive) and a more timid, less self-confident puppy would have been completely overwhelmed and intimidated by Whitney.
Dood came to live with us when he was 11 weeks old. It wasn't until he turned eight months old that he became a real member of our family. Prior to that he wasn't much more than a four-legged, flying juggernaut destroying our house and terrorizing the occupants. We tried crating him (he broke the crate down), we tried confining him (he nearly chewed the door off its hinges), we tried training class (it didn't "take.") Then we came to realize that he might just have a really bad case of puppy brains and the only thing we could do was wait for him to grow up.
When he hit his six month birthday he was neutered. "Let the countdown to normality begin," I told the vet! I was so excited. Perhaps a change in hormones would settle Dood down. Sure enough, two months later it was as if we had a new dog. He listened, he watched, he actually held still long enough to be petted and cuddled. Unfortunately for him, now that he wanted to sit in my lap he was too big to sit in my lap. Still, we were all happy to welcome Dood into our family...for the second time.

I sometimes wonder if I embarass our dogs. I tend to turn dialogue into song lyrics. I can't just say, "Whooza-sweetie-weetie-puppy-uppy," I have to sing it. So perhaps you won't be surprised to find out that I have a song about Dood (whose full name is Spanky Doodle Dandy), and how he came to live with us, and what Whitney thought about the whole thing.
Sung to the tune of "Yankee Doodle Dandy."
DOOD'S TURN
I'm a Spanky Doodle Dandy,
Spanky Doodle doggie, I.
A real live puppy
Of my sire and dam,
Born on the Fourth of July (lie, lie, lie)!
I've a happy doodle mommy,
I've a happy doodle dad,
Spanky Doodle came to New York,
Just to find a family,
I am that Spanky Doodle guy!
WHITNEY'S TURN
I'm a disappointed poodle,
Disappointed poodle, I.
My parents went and got a
Brand new dog.
Why would they want more than moi?
I don't wanna share my mommy,
I don't wanna share my dad.
GET THAT PUPPY OFF MY DOG BED,
MAKE HIM DROP MY CHEW TOY!
I am a disappointed gal.
What do you think? Should my dogs be embarassed by their batty old mom?

Mom wrote a haiku for all the dog moms for Mother's Day. I kinda like it. I hope you will, too.
Here's to the dog moms,
Covered in slobber and fur,
It's called puppy love!

Yesterday I had the honor of being named Dog Of The Day. Nothing like that has ever happened to me before! Mom says I'm a genius and Dad says I'm a rock star but you know, they have to say stuff like that, because I'm their dog. But when people on Dogster tell me how good looking I am, well, I sit up and pay attention. But don't worry, I won't get a swelled head. Today it's back to normal while some other lucky dog has the honor of being the Dogster Dog Of The Day.
I'd like to thank all the people who gave gifts or sent pup pal requests. You all really helped make our day special! And thanks to everyone who left me a bone. You are all very generous!
Special thanks to Dallas for the Dog Of The Day graphic!
