Arrival Story:
After moving to Stone Mountain, Georgia, Sept. 1, 1990, we decided to wait before getting a dog. I waited until Sept. 10, when I found her at Stone Mountain Grooming while the Stone Mountain Daisy Festival was occurring. Everyone thought we'd named her for "Driving Miss Daisy" (which we do a lot), but it was for the festival.

Bio:
Daisy died yesterday, September 6, 2005, 6 days short of her 15th anniversary of coming to live with us. She'd turned 15 on June 25, 2005. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front left shoulder in July 2002, had her leg amputated Aug. 2, and was given 5-6 months to live. We decided against chemo, and our wonderful vet, Dr. Jeff Todd, has supervised her treatment since then, a combination of traditional and alternative medicine. She is perky, happy, goes for long walks, and everyone thinks she's a young dog. We take it a day at a time, and since she recuperated from the surgery, every day has been a good day!

After having a wonderful Quincenera party on June 25 to celebrate turning 15, Daisy got weaker throughout the summer. Her cancer had returned the beginning of June in the form of skin cysts. We were ready to let her go a few weeks ago, but she made yet another miraculous recovery - folks who'd said goodbye to her saw her hopping around the yard and were amazed. We'd lost her sister Sadie 10 days earlier, Aug. 26, so this has been a difficult time. On the day Sadie died, Daisy had rallied to the point of being able to use the dog door. But this past week she declined rapidly. We still don't know if it was the cancer, a brain tumor, stroke, or what, but she could no longer stand or eat or drink on her own, and she thrashed wildly trying to get up - her world was spinning. We gave her enough time to see if she wanted one more miracle, but she did not. I held her on my lap as my husband petted her in our vet's office, and Dr. Lapham was so kind. It was very peaceful. We love you, Daisy.

Yay! Cooler weather is here!

It stayed in the 60's all day today and was in the 50's all morning, so we were able to go all two and a half miles around Shelley Lake. I didn't have to be carried at all! When it's hot/humid, we usually just go back and forth on the shady side. We sat for a while on top of the dam - the breeze was cool, but refreshing. What a beautiful day!

Blessings

Well, since our vets call me their Little Miracle Dog, I guess it's appropriate that my sisters & I go to a Blessing of the Animals this weekend. We started going to these in Georgia, and sometimes we'd go to several (since my folks think we need all the help we can get to keep from getting "blessed out.") This Saturday will be the third blessing I've attended since my surgery on August 2, 2002. I hope to see lots of animals and lots of treats! We'll be going to Church of the Nativity in Raleigh, NC, at 4 P.M.
