Arrival Story:
Lance was a rescue from a puppy mill along w/his sister. Friends of mine had them until the husband died. Since Lance can be very guardian/possessive, he was sent to another schip person to try to deal with his issues. She needed to find him a new home as she had too many so I asked to adopt him, since I had seen him once or twice before. I've had him for about 5 yrs now.

Life with Addison's disease

I hate when stuff doesn't work...

Hi, approximately two weeks ago, May 10th, I lost all my 'zip' and just laid around in the yard all day. Didn't even feel like barking at the people walking by my fenced-in yard. Mom got worried that I wasn't myself....so off to the vet I went the next day.

I didn't have Lyme disease but was a bit quiet during all the poking and prodding so I got some fluids and a shot. Mom kept an eye on me over the weekend and noticed that I had wierd tremors and 'tics' so she called the vet at midnight on Saturday. We decided that I wasn't a crisis case so I'd come in on Monday for some tests.

I felt like a pin cushion but the vet realized that I might have Addison's disease as my potassium and sodium were really out of whack. More tests proved that was the case. I ended up with 'poodle leg' where they shaved me for my catheter and I had to stay overnight for a day or so. I was given Percorten-V and had to take pills that made me drink and pee TOO much but Mommy was happy to have me home by Wednesday.

After 10 days, the vet checked my enzymes again, and everything is where it was supposed to be so the meds are doing well. I go back the day after Memorial Day for another checkup and for Mommy to learn how to give me a shot which I will get every 25 days or so. Boy, it's great to be back to feeling like myself, barking at all kinds of stuff, chewing on my buddy Sage and just being a general nuisance. I've noticed that later in the evening, I seem to get agitated and restless....can't seem to sit/lay still, but Mom's keeping a journal of my health issues.

Will keep adding to this as I can....woof, woof... Lance "the Man"
