Another day with Lucy

Our little Lucy has settled in nicely to our crazy routine. She usually spends her mornings playing with her toys and snoozing(since she likes to stay up half the night licking her Mommy's ears and chewing on her fingers and toes). She went for some shots yesterday and is now 3 1/2 pounds!! My, my, my girl is growing. When I took her the first part of January she was 2 3/4 pounds. She sure does like to eat. I give her a mix or Iams Puppy, Purina Puppy Chow and Beneful. She likes the different textures and shapes. (That may just be me imagining it...) She is so funny when she eats. She sometimes likes to eat it with a little warm water on it to make it soft but usually she would rather crunch on it. She will grab on piece(which she likes to get off the floor, she does not like to eat out of the bowl), then she will run to the living room drop on her belly and crunch on it like she isn't supposed to have it. She will do that time after time until she's full or tired of running. Then it's time to play with her toys and then nap time again. Just like a baby!! One thing I am so glad of. She is a great rider. When I make my weekly trek back and forth to the beach she will either curl up in my lap or quietly play with her toys in the seat beside me. I was worried she wouldn't enjoy riding but she has adapted nicely!! As you can probably tell, I am just crazy about my sweetie pie and don't know what I've done all this time without her. Stay tuned more pics and diary to come......

A day in Lucy's life

Today is Monday and Lucy is spending the afternoon at work with her mommy & daddy. She stayed at home this morning dozing in the sunshine on her favorite blanket in the middle of the living room floor, surrounded by all her favorite toys. This has became our routine now it seems. She is sleepy by midmorning because she wants to play half of the night. It always seems to start off well. We decide to go to bed and I take Lucy out to potty. Then we get into bed with Lucy on her little blanket right between her daddys and my head. She wiggles a little, chews a little, scratches and little and then settles down to sleep, usually with her little head on one of our pillows. Once I can scoot her around enough to manage the snooring we finally sleep...... But never fails anywhere from midnight until about 4 am she wakes up and begins to work on getting me up too. She chews, wiggles, scratches and finally paws at my face until mommy gets up and takes her out to potty again. Then, do you think she is ready to go back to bed? I think not!! She is ready to PLAY!! In order for poor daddy to get some much needed rest, mommy and Lucy head for the couch. Mommy grabs the throw and tries to doze while Lucy chews on her hands and toes. After a while of this she snuggles up beside me to sleep a few more hours and then we start again. Now, I am hoping that this is just her being a puppy since she's only three months old. If it's not then I am going to die of exhaustion in a very short period of time. I know there are those of you out there that say I should crate her or confine her to a particular area but I just can't bring myself to do that yet. And I hope I don't ever! Lucy is my baby and I love to snuggle with her even if it means not getting any sleep. If I can only get hubby to keep that feeling too. He is getting just a little frustrated with not having his own snuggle time with the wifey....... but I just remind him to have patience and our little girl will get bigger and probably want her own space and sleep much better soon. So, tonight is another night and I can't wait to get my two hours..... :-0 More to come.

More Lucy background

I didn't get to finish the background info on Lucy in my last post so I'll try and do it now. You see, the reason we've been without a family dog for so long is because two and a half years ago we lost our precious Abigail. Abigail was our ten year old Yorkshire Terrier that was the head of our house. She RULED!!! She slept right in the middle of the bed with my husband and I and we all loved her dearly. She had the best personality of any dog I've ever been around. She was diagnosed with Lymphoma right after my mom was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. She fought a hard fight and lived almost a year. This included me giving her Chemo pills regularly. We lost Abigail in August of 2004 and I lost my mom in Dec. of 2004. That was truly the worst year of my life. So, it has taken me some time to be ready to another pet. We've had other changes in our lives too that have kept us from getting one sooner but now, now I think is the perfect time for us and I am thrilled with my new addition!! Lucy surprises me everyday with changes in her already wonderful personality!! Of course we have our issues with housbreaking, which, I've read is hard with this breed but I have faith in her and she'll do a great job for her mom and dad. We love her and will be patient!!
