Arrival Story:
Faryn is the first puppy that I raised for Guide Dogs of America. She was placed with me when she was seven weeks old, and we worked on socialization and manners while she was with me for 18 months. Faryn went in for training, but was career changed after two months because she was having allergy problems.

Faryn has a great temperment, and would have been a great guide if it wasn't for her health issues. Her new career will involve being a therapy dog, specifically a reading therapy dog so that she can still go to work with me. Although I'm disappointed that she didn't get to become a guide, I am happy to have her back home with me!

Puppy in Training

The new puppy

There's a new puppy in the household. She looks a lot like me, but she doesn't act like me at all, even though she wears the same Puppy in Training bib that I used to wear. That puppy needs to learn her manners if she ever plans on making it as a guide. I hear mom telling her all the time, "You're no Faryn!" That makes me feel like a princess, but I don't like the fact that the other puppy gets to go to work with mom two days a week and I now have to stay home. I look beautiful in my new therapy dog jacket and love the days that I get to go to work with mom. I know I'm stuck with the puppy for awhile, so I'll try and get along with her. I feel like the character in Rugby and Rosie!

Career change day

Well, the itchies and the scratchies have taken over! It's so bad that my hair is starting to fall out, so Joe and the other trainers think it's best that I find some other career. I know that I would have been a great guide dog because I'm so smart, but I know that I can't do my job well if I have to stop and scratch so much. My mom told me before I was turned in that she had a Plan B already for me if I decided I didn't want to be a guide. I hope it has something to do with going back to school with her. I like all the attention from the kids. Maybe I'll try that reading therapy thing like my sister Fiona. At least now I can go back to Three Dog Bakery!

I'm still doing very well in training. I'm learning right turns now, and everyone tells me that I'm doing very well with all of my guide work. However, I have been told that I have a problem with keeping my nose off the ground. What do they expect? I'm a lab and I'm sure there's something to eat somewhere close by!
