Arrival Story: Rune came from a woman who traded her for $50 so she could be rid of her "problem puppy." She was terrified of everything. She'd never so much as glimpsed the world beyond her too-small crate. My first days with here were spent in hair-pulling frustration as I tried to encourage her to walk on a leash without tripping over her as she struggled to hide between my legs. She was scared of everything and everyone. At 15 weeks of age, my hopes for her shrinking window of socialization were dwindling, and I was beginning to wonder what I'd gotten myself into.
However, if you knew her today, you would be hard pressed to believe that was the beginning to her story. With a little dedication and some gentle nudging, it did not take long to turn her into the little socialite she is today. I adopted a bit of a no-nonsense approach to her initial clingyness, and we went forward to meet and greet as many strangers, sights and sounds we could lay eyes on. Today, Rune thrives on attention. In fact, she is an attention hog! She blissfully throws herself against those who would cuddle her and rub on her, an act that swiftly earned her the nickname "Blanket." She displays an admirable amount of confidence in the face of almost any obstacle. Shiny floors and metallic food bowls still hold a bit of trepidation for her, but with a little more hard work and dedication she is overcoming those fears as well.
