 Quick Bio:
 Likes: Belly rubs

Pet-Peeves: Loud noises - she'll never make a bird dog.

Favorite Toy: Ginger likes to play tug with my finger. She has a very gentle mouth.

Favorite Food: Anything she can eat.

Favorite Walk: Anywhere we go is fine with her.

Best Tricks: Ginger is a good mouser. The chipmunks have eluded her so far.

Arrival Story: I found Ginger in my backyard New Year's day of 2000. She was skinny as a rail and shivering. I had to lure her to me with lunchmeat. I called the SPCA and put ads in the local papers but nobody claimed her - not that I'd have given her back, I wanted to find out who owned her so I could have them prosecuted.

Bio: When I found Ginger she was afraid of being hit, she would just roll over if you tried to touch her. She wasn't housebroken or trained in any way, she'd just been beat and kicked. She would try to run out any open door and wouldn't come when called. She would eat anything she could get in her mouth, even things not normally considered food (potpourri, ant traps, Kleenex with lotion, etc.). After a year of love, work, and patience, Ginger became a loving dog who comes when she's called, walks on a leash, and doesn't steal food. She's still afraid of strangers, especially men. I can't show any anger or do any work that involves me hitting anything when she's around, anger and violence upset her still.
The end of Ginger's story:
On 8/30/08 I had to take my best friend to the vet for the last time. Ginger had been having occasional but more frequent seizures for several months. In mid-July they became too frequent, and I had Ginger put on medication for the seizures. Things were under control until 8/28 when Ginger began having seizures again. On the 29th she had one while I was at work and was never herself after that. It was like having a zombie version of my dog in the house, truly a disturbing experience. The zombie dog constantly stumbled around bumping into things and tripping on her own feet, forgot her housebreaking training, and saddest of all no longer responded to her name. I went to sleep praying Ginger would come back to me overnight, but in the morning there was no improvement. My dog wasn't in there anymore. The vet didn't open until 10, so I spent the morning holding, petting, and crying over what was left of my dog. We shared some chocolate chip cookies and ice cream (the zombie dog still loved to eat) and then went for a last ride. I held her in my arms and told her what a good girl she was as the vet gave the injection. Then I took her home and dug a hole. It's been a few weeks now and I am crying as I type this, I miss her badly.
