Arrival Story:
After moving to Oklahoma City, we decided the time was right to get a dog. We contacted a local breeder, and Mira was born on December 28, 2006 - ironically, my brother's birthday. She was also born in the town my stepmom and her family grew up in, about two hours away from OKC. So, yeah. Seems like fate conspired to get this little one to come home with my fiancee and I. Mira came home on February 22nd, and she's already proving to be an awesome, awesome dog. She's a fun loving little thing who already has the infamous Aussie "velcro dog" thing down. She certainly manages to make life interesting. She's got a pretty large extended family(three guinea pigs, two rabbits here, and two cats and a big goofy otterhound that my dad and stepmom have). She is developing a goofy sense of humor, too... she likes getting laughs, and is coming up with ways to get them.

Mira doesn't get that Aussies are supposed to be "guarded around strangers"... she just loves everyone. It doesn't matter who, she's excited to see you and will be your best friend almost instantly. As a result, we're thinking Mira might just be a decent therapy dog when she gets a little older.

Why Mira's Awesome

For anyone who wonders why people want a dog...

I've had a pretty rough couple of weeks, with health problems, stress at work, and all that fun stuff. Well, the other night, my asthma finally caught up to me, and I had, while not quite an attack, what you could definitely call an "episode", with my lungs feeling not so great. Nonetheless, I went to get Mira for her last walk of the night.

Now, usually, Mira is really hyper, all bouncing up and down when she sees the leash. But not that night. Instead, she came over real calmly and, when I kneeled down to hook up the leash, she came forward and pressed her head up against my chest and kept it there. Once we got back in, all she wanted to do was cuddle up with me, licking my hands.

I absolutely love my little dog. No matter how bad things are, she's always got a way to cheer me up. I really do think, once we get her settled down a little more, she's gonna make an awesome therapy dog.

So, I was watching ECW last night, and Mira was doing her usual thing, jumping around and being a puppy, when my favorite wrestler, CM Punk, came up on the screen. Mira stopped what she was doing, and literally watched the ENTIRE MATCH. Once it was over, she went back to playing. So, Mir-Mir is a CM Punk fan... which, naturally, led to her new nickname of CM Pup.

She's doing okay, but she doesn't seem to be quite as good for my fiancee in terms of doing her business outside, so I'm going to keep an eye on what she's doing and pass along any differences.

We're going to start more training tonight, probably looking at "stay". She's doing well with the other commands, but with a new couch in the living room, it's more complicated. =p
