Arrival Story:
I researched pyrs for two years and finally found a breeder near St. Louis, MO. Kiah comes from true LGD's and it shows! She was born March 8th, 2005. Which happens to be the day after my birthday and many years later. My hubby and I made the 8 hour trip to pick her up. We stayed over night and drove the 8 hours back home. Kiah did very well in car. She was 8.5 weeks old and weighed 23lbs! She was the biggest puppy I have ever seen! Her registered name is Kiah Tajsa of Allinga which is Australian Aborniginese. Kiah means "from a beautiful place" and Tajsa of Allinga means Princess of the Sun. Kiah is pronounce K I ah. not like the car. UGH!

Kiah's Limping

Surgery Complete

Kiah had her surgery on 1/25/07. It went very well! She has the all clear to start playing again. However, mom isn't too sure about it yet. We're still on leash until the muscle is built up.

Kiah started licking her incision and might have to go back to the vet. He thinks she's allergic to the internal suture material. For now she's back to wearing the cone and isn't happy about it.

Kiah Needs Surgery

Last month our 2 year old Great Pyrenees Kiah began limping and I was greatly concerned. Our
family consulted the vet, and were told she may have fallen or just be having normal growing pains.
We found out this week that she tore her rear ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). For anyone who isn’t
familiar with this kind of injury, it is terribly painful for a dog. Kiah needs major TPLO surgery. The
problem is that this kind of surgery is very expensive. The least expensive surgeon we have found
charges $2000.00-$2500.00 (depending on how the procedure goes).

We are a young family. We have a three year old daughter who loves Kiah very very much. Kiah is
our protector when my husband is working, she is our daughter’s play mate, she is part of our family.
My husband works very hard to support his family, and he is a proud man. Unfortunately we simply
do not have the money for this surgery. We have a baby due in April, and we are living paycheck to
paycheck.

I am asking for any help that people can possibly provide. I know that a lot of people think that
animals in this situation should be put to sleep, that it is a waste of money to do this kind of surgery,
however this dog is everything to us. Our daughter would be heartbroken if we put Kiah to sleep;
my husband loves her too much to even consider that option.

Every single dollar helps. If you can’t personally help with her surgery, could you be so kind as to tell
anyone you know who is an animal lover, who might help, about Kiah’s story? If you belong to any
message boards that would allow you to post about Kiah, that might help, if you could print this story
and post it at church, or in any community group you may belong to….just anything you can think of that might help, is so appreciated.

We need to raise $2500.00. If we exceed our goal, all additional money will be donated to
SPIN (Saving Pyrs In Need). I would like to thank you in advance for every penny you can spare.
Kiah will be in pain every day until we can come up with the money for her surgery.
