Sara's Training December 28, 2006

She's doing good for a young pup. You can tell her breed has bully dog in them, she uses her weight alot of the time when she hits. Must be a Cattle Dog thing. :o)
I'm training her with me as the decoy, I hope this doesn't complicate things before we get to a club training event. Right now this is what the training consists of ... she knows 2 Sigma Pseudo scents Cocaine and Marijuana impressingly well for a pup.
Because I'm the decoy getting her to listen to commands from afar was confusing her so I use a wistle with different pitches.
This is how we train... she Bleib'in on a marker while I go set myself up, this took forever to teach her because she always wants to be at my heels. I used the E-Collar to remedy this.
I have her set up to do 2 rounds back and forth and the third round is the hit (if scents are present) I want her to focus on scents right now .. so this is my theory. we'll get into the fun stuff a little later after she grows some more.
First round she's on the marker about 100 yards away and wistled to Voraus then Pass auf and return to the marker. This took forever to get right because once she's with me she doesn't want to leave. Again the E-Collar did the trick. Now I need to go get a stash and return to my "spot" while she's patiently waiting. I don't do this all the time.. if I did she'd remember and not listen or just do it out of repetition.
Second she's on the marker and wistled to Voraus and Such
Rauschgift... usually she knows before she gets to me and does the Gib Laut or tailwag right away. Tailwag is for Marijuana and Bark is for Cocaine. Then she returns to her marker.
Third she's to hit straight out. We just started this last week with the third round... she looks hopeful.
Any suggestions would be appreciated on what I've posted here.
Although I do believe once we get to a club with a real decoy .. she'll become more of a hard dog.

I'm not sure which route I'm taking with her just yet, so I'm giving her a taste of it all. Scent is my main focus.

Sara is growing wide and not tall. She will be quite the stocky build. She's picking up on the flat and blind well now @ 5 months. Her intake of food is steady for 3 weeks now ... she eats 3 full BARF meals a day and picks at the bowl through out the day. Christopher has her doing good on the Pseudo search. She always finds it. Her ratio of food and exercise is equal. Looking hopeful. :o)~
