ADOPT 2010 Contest

Hi Pup pals,

I'm just writing to tell about my rescue story for the contest. I'm so happy Mommy adopted me from Rogers' Rescues, who saved my life in 2003 from a kill shelter in West Virginia. I was way too skinny when Rogers' Rescues took me in and saved my life. Then I had a foster Mommy for a while until my Mommy fell in love with me and gave me a good home. I gained weight and am very healthy and happy now. I used to be afraid of men, but I have gotten over a lot of that. Sometimes I'm still afraid, but it's getting better. Mommy is very proud of me. I used to have a brother, Walter, who was an older dog, but he went to the Rainbow Bridge a few months ago and Mommy cried a lot. I miss Walter, and it took me a while to adjust, but Mommy says I'm being a very good girl. I've grown up a lot and I get lots of love and attention and exercise...and really good treats. I have a great life now thanks to Rogers' Rescues and my Mommy. It's really important to adopt us shelter dogs. We have a lot of love to give!

Your pal,
Lucy

De-stuffing stuffed animals

Howdy pup pals,
Mommy hasn't been giving us any new babies (stuffed animals) to play with. I think she doesn't like how I tear all the stuffing out, but I can't help myself...it's so much fun! And when I'm done the living room looks like it has little puffs of clouds all over. So pretty! Mommy always comes in and scoops it all up and then puts the babies in the baby hospital for stitching. The baby hospital is the hall closet. Then when they get stitched up they are Frankenbabies, ready for me to tear apart again. Halloween is coming soon. Walter thinks he's gonna get some candy but Mommy said no chocolate for doggies. Maybe we can sneak some of the other candy she buys. Walter and I like sweets. But Mommy doesn't let us have much. Sometimes a marshmallow will lure us back inside when we are howling at something. Or some whipped cream, too. But that's mainly it. We can't resist the sweets.
Yours Truly,
Lucy

Kids came over

Hey pup pals,
We had some kids visit our house the other day. The good thing about little kids is that when they hold food in their hands, it's closer to the ground and easier for me to try to get! But on the other hand, kids have a lot of energy and I was really tired after they left. Mommy calls it doggie hangover. That's what I had, alright. Those kids were trying to play with me a lot. I didn't know what to do. Walter didn't play with them as much. He just likes to lounge around and of course, beg for food. But I gotta get my nose in the action. Anyway, Mommy will be baking her holiday cookies soon and I plan on being right in the kitchen with Walter in case anything falls on the floor. We're on cleanup crew. Happy Holidays to all pup pals out there!
Your friend, Lucy
