Arrival Story:
Shannon was adopted by my sister on July 4, 1999. Her boyfriend picked Shannon from the many dogs at the Animal Rescue League. Shannon was very shy and timid at first; however, she has really blossomed in recent years. We bonded right away when I moved to Iowa in 2001. I always look for any excuse to puppysit her, even when she doesn't need puppysitting. This is very easy since my sister only lives around the block from me. On the rare occasion that Shannon has gotten out of her yard, she typically ends up on my doorstep. I'd love to have her live with me, but I can't have pets at my house. Thankfully, the occasonal visit is okay.

Shannon won't fetch or chase anything that she can't eat. She has absolutely no interest in balls (those not filled with treats) or frisbees. I've tried rolling a ball towards her on several occasions, and each time, she will stand up, step aside to avoid the ball, and sit back down. Shannon loves kids, and they love her right back. She is particularly fond of her young niece Kayla, seen in several of the photos. When Kayla was little, she would always want to nap beside Shannon. The neighborhood kids now compete to see who can walk Shannon each day. Shannon is very well behaved and doesn't pull on the leash like she does when my sister or I walk her. There is one exception to this. On occasion, the kids will walk by my house, and Shannon will lead them up onto my porch so she can pay me a visit.
