Today is Puppy Mill Awareness Day!

Until recently most people didn’t even know what a puppy mill was. Thanks to Oprah for airing a show, one of her most watched, on the subject that helped bring the horrors of what was happening behind the scenes to light.

Puppy mills are nothing new. These mass dog-breeding operations have been around for decades. They continue to thrive because they prey on unwitting consumers who are smitten by too-cute-for-words puppies in pet store windows and on fancy websites.

But behind the friendly facade of the local pet shop, the pastoral scenes on a “breeder’s” website, or the neighborhood newspaper ad, there often lies a puppy mill. These canine breeding facilities house dogs in shockingly poor conditions.

Life is particularly bad for “breeding stock,” dogs who live their entire lives in cages and are continually bred for years, without human companionship and with little hope of ever becoming part of a family. These dogs receive little or no veterinary care and never see a bed, a treat or a toy. After their fertility wanes, breeding animals are commonly killed, abandoned or sold to another mill. The annual result of all this breeding is hundreds of thousands of puppies, many with behavior and/or health problems.

Sadly, few states have laws directly effecting the treatment of dogs in puppy mills. We, as a collective group of 50 million plus dog owners, have the power to take a stand and contact our legislators to demand a change. Stricter laws need to be passed into legislation and enforced to stop the inhumane treatment of these dogs.

Logan, our Bernese Mountain Dog rescue, was a dog used for stud at a puppy mill. He spent over 4 years in a 2×4 cage where he couldn’t even sit up. His only human contact came when it was time to be pulled from the cage to fulfill his role. When he stopped producing, he was discarded just as a 64 pound bag of flea and tick infested garbage would be.

Something minor in the whole scheme of things, but something that really drove home the reality of his situation to me, was that fact he never even had a name. As Lisa and I work with Logan to get him to trust humans, I have no doubt that puppy mills are a business, in it for profit, with no concern over the welfare of the dog. That’s why the word needs to be spread far and wide about these despicable actions.

Puppy Mill Awareness Day is committed to educating the public about the connection between consumers and commercial breeding facilities. Don’t miss this fun filled day.

WE HAVE A NEW HUMANE BROTHER!

Ethan Adam, he was born on April 3, 2008 at 5:01pm, he was 8lbs 7oz & 21 ins long.

Mom is so suprised on how we are handling it, and how good we are with him. So sorry we have it been on, us and mom have been so busy, and we don't have much time to get on.

But we miss all of you! Hope you all miss us!

Sorry we have been M.I.A! Mom has it been feeling well!

We are so sorry we have it been on, mom has it been feeling real well and been really really tierd. But she said pregnecy will do that to you, and she is getting closer to her due date. So the little guy will be here in no time, which is getting really exciting.

That and mom and dads cars are both broken down. First dads broke, now moms broke. So she has it had a car to go do anything or go to the post office. So if anyone expecting something from us we are trully sorry and we will make it up to you and get them out ASAP.

We got a sweet card from Tico, Valentines Cards, a awesome scrapbook from the Scrapbook Chain for are shelter, and 2 gifts from Tillie (Chrismas Exchange, he steped in when are Exchange buddy never sent anything.) and Chip (Are Valentines Day Exchange buddy.), which thanks so much they were very much apperciated. And sorry for not posting anything yet, but we will be writeing a diary entrys and posting pics up when mom has a chance.

RESULTS ON MOM'S BABY SHOWER! (Geting closer to the little- guy getting here!)

Moms baby shower went great, it looked amazing! She was so amazed by how much work her Mom, Grandma, & Aunt put into it! Not everyone made it to the shower though, most of them chould't get off work. Which made mommy kind of sad, but she was very happy that some people were able to come. And she had so much fun, there were lots of games, food, and preasents to open.

Mommy said the weird thing is that she got mostly all clothes lol. She said not to get her wrong she is not ungratefull, she loved everything she got. But she has been to many baby showers and the ones she has gone to, the person will get like 3 Diper Genies, and tons of Dipers, etc. And she did it get even one Diper Genie and only 2 things of Dipers, lol! Everyone thought that everyone else was getting that stuff so they did it get any of it. And it ended up were noone got that stuff, mom just thought it was very weird.

US & MOM ARE GETTING EXCITED, Her Baby Shower is the- Saturday!

Mom was kind of sad today though seeing all of this snow falling down! (Us to because we have seen are fair share of snow this year!) She thought it might put a damper on her baby shower, and peopel not being able to come because of it. But they are perdicting it to stop by tommorow, and the temptures are suppose to be going up, so that makes her feel alot better! (Us to, we can't wait till Spring!)

But mom is so excited to see everyone and have lots of fun. She has been kind of bourd latley since they made her go on leave 2 months early. We have been trying to keep her occupied the best we can, but there is only so much to do. But all of us are really excited to see what she will be getting for the baby!

And the babys arivial is coming up pretty quick, we are all getting more and more excited as each day passes! We can't wait for the little guy to get here! It is such a amazing experince!
