Arrival Story:
A friend who fosters rescue Siberians contacted me by e-mail in November four years ago because a very nice rescue boy had arrived at her place and she thought I might be interested. When I saw his picture and read what was known about him I was definitely interested. I really liked his "splash" coat and his attitude. After having only female Siberians I wanted a male but I had to convince my husband who was still grieving over our beloved Tasha and had said "no more dogs" rather emphatically. He finally agreed to make the drive to see the dog after I had campaigned for this boy for a week. So we loaded up Shadow, Melody and Feather and headed north to Washington State and the Wenatchee National Forest. We managed to make the trip between snow storms and when we arrived we saw a handsome red and white dog running around in the snowy front yard. We greeted my friend and then let our three Siberians out to play with the boy. He was big and rough but everyone seemed to get along so the decision was made and the new boy headed home with us. On the way through the Cascades headed towards Seattle I tried various names out on my husband but the only one he liked at all was "Wenatchee." Wenatchee had been owned by a young man who apparently took good care of him. He was even microchipped although the chip wasn't registered. He had been named "Demon" so we speculated that the movie "Snow Dogs" probably had something to do with his acquisition. Unfortunately the young man's fiancee was not at all enchanted with young Demon and so he was given away to a family with a young boy. The child however was terrified of the boisterous pup and so Demon ended up in rescue. Wenatchee turned out to be a sweetheart. He, of course, was very needy the first few months with us but even four years later he wants to be close to one of us. He is my husband's boy. He commandeered the middle of our king size bed the very first night and that has been his place ever since much to the annoyance of Shadow. He still thinks he is a puppy and tries to climb into our laps whenever we are seated. Occasionally he succeeds but he is a big galoot so he doesn't last long on the lap. He really is a good dog although unfortunately Shadow taught him counter crawling and he has a real talent for it. He is the only Siberian we've had who gives gentle nose gnaws as a sign of his affection.

Bio:
Within six months of Wenatchee coming to live with us he tore his anterior cruciate ligament. After talking to the vet specialist we agreed that the only way to go was with TPLO surgery so I spent my first summer with Wenatchee making sure he stayed properly confined. Not fun! Six months later it became clear that the other knee had the same problem so once again he went into confinement. Happily by the end of the summer of 2006 he was healed and ready to go and was rewarded with his first trip to the Canadian Rockies. Boy did he enjoy that trip!
