Likes: The usual doggie stuff: Walks, rides, treats!
Pet-Peeves: Those dang squirrels! Especially that red one!
Favorite Toy: He'll play with any old scrap of a toy, but he LOVES his Bungee-Ball that hangs from the walnut tree in the backyard.
Favorite Food: He is horribly fussy about food! Loves his Greenies after dinner, and will beg for cookies anytime.
Favorite Walk: Anywhere, especially the local park.
Best Tricks: Communicating his very specific desires for tasty items.
Arrival Story: Webster was adopted from the Lucky Dog Rescue Foundation of Minnesota, a fantastic local rescue organization (visit Lucky Dog Rescue for more info).
We are so grateful to Johnny and Sara, who were his foster parents before he got his forever home, and Rita, the Fairy Dogmother who rescued him.
Bio: This boy can FLY! When he wants to move, he's just a blur... a beautiful thing to watch, just the most amazing display of grace in motion. Although he only weighs about 85 lbs., he is a very large dog. With his long body and long legs, he can stand with his paws on my shoulders and almost look me in the eyes, and I'm nearly 6'.
Forums Motto:
I want to tell you a story about my brother Ringo.
About a week and a half week ago, on Sunday night - actually very early Monday morning - at about 1:30 A.M., Mom was already in bed and Ringo and I were in the bedroom too. Dad was just walking in when Ringo went flying out of the room growling. He raced to the living room and started barking like crazy. Now that is not unusual behavior for him at all, but he never acts like that once he goes to bed.
Dad went out to see what was up, and he heard some yelling outside. That's really normal around here at that time of night because we live near a bowling alley with a popular bar inside, and 1:00 A.M. is closing time. So he brought Ringo back into the bedroom, but meanwhile Mom heard the yelling too, and she could hear it more clearly because she has better hearing and she had the bedroom window on her side open a bit. She told Dad it sounded like a woman yelling "HELP! CALL THE POLICE!" So Dad ran outside and looked around. He couldn't see anything and there was no yelling at first. But just when he was about to go back in, he heard it himself and it sounded just like what Mom said!
He ran back in the house, told Mom to call 911, grabbed his coat and a MagLite and Ringo (hrmph!) and ran back out. The yelling was coming from the direction of the pond a couple blocks from our house... the pond is on both sides of the road. He and Ringo hopped in the car and drove up that way, trying to look all around, but didn't see anything. He went up to the next major intersection (where the Police Station is on the corner) and turned around so they could look along the other side of the road more. They went by the pond again but still saw nothing. So Dad was gonna go back and park by the pond to look with the flashlight since the road is a lot higher than the pond. When he turned on the next street to turn around, three squad cars went flying by... PAST where he last heard the yelling! So he followed them past our house, flashing his lights and honking to get the cops' attention. They went racing into the bowling alley parking lot and drove up to where a couple was apparently approaching the "your place or mine?" point... I think the cops sorta ruined the moment for them! Anyway, that was where Dad caught up with them and told them that they went too far because whatever was happening was back by the pond. I guess the dispatcher gave them the wrong information because Mom told them that Dad heard the yelling last up by the pond. The three squad cars there quickly took off and headed for the pond.
Well, at that point, there was nothing more for Dad and Ringo to do so they went back home. They just got out of the car when they heard more yelling and they saw one of the cop cars drive right off the road into the area around the pond. All the cops were shining their spotlights down there. Then a bunch more cop cars came zooming by and stopped by the pond. Soon after, an ambulance came there. You should have seen all the flashing lights!
They were there for a long time, but Dad had to get to bed so we don't know how long. And we still have no idea what happened. But from what we saw and heard, it must have been something pretty serious! The good news is that since the lady was still yelling when the police showed up, she must have been at least still in fairly good condition.
Well, that's my story! Ringo wouldn't say anything about it... you know Ringo, he just says stuff like "well, it's just my job". But I wanted to let you know that, even if we don't know exactly what he saved someone from, I think my brother Ringo was a hero.
Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. This holiday, based on a tradition that goes back for centuries, is a day designated for giving thanks for the multitude of blessings which have been bestowed upon us.
Last year, we enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving Day at home. The next day, I received, among other things, a p-mail from my best friend Wilson. In his message, he said he was thankful for me and my two brothers. It was short and sweet, and made me feel wonderful.
When I went to reply to it, Wilson showed up with a new name: "Wilson - Rainbow Bridge". I was devastated. How could Wilson just leave like that? I never even had the chance to thank him for being my friend!
But of course I did. I had that chance many, many times. And that's the point of my diary today. Don't wait until it's too late. Say it now.
To my friends: THANK YOU! You mean more to me than you'll ever know.
Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel; all claimed that they were the best, the most important, the most useful, the favorite.
GREEN said: “Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, trees, leaves - without me, all animals would die. Look over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority.”
BLUE interrupted: “You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing.”
YELLOW chuckled: “You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun.”
ORANGE started next to blow her trumpet: “I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangoes, and pawpaws. I don’t hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you.”
RED could stand it no longer. He shouted out: “I am the ruler of all of you - I am blood - life’s blood! I am the color of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire into the blood. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon. I am the color of passion and of love, the red rose, the poinsettia and the poppy.”
PURPLE rose up to his full height. He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: “I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me for I am the sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me - they listen and obey.”
Finally, INDIGO spoke, much more quietly than all the others, but with just as much determination: “Think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace.”
And so the colors went on boasting, each convinced of his or her own superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash of bright lightening - thunder rolled and boomed. Rain started to pour down relentlessly The colors crouched down in fear, drawing close to one another for comfort.
In the midst of the clamor, RAIN began to speak: “You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Don’t you know that you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me.”
Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands. RAIN continued: “From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a great bow of color as a reminder that you can all live in peace… for the rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow.”
And so, whenever a good rain washes the world, and a rainbow appears in the sky, let us remember to appreciate one another.
(for my friend Wilson, who was blessed with the gift of turning rain into rainbows)
