Hondo liked being comfortable on the couch. His claim to fame: "Hondo knew just how to get."
Pet-Peeves:
Hondo's pet peeve was Jake and Metria having too much fun. When they would go at it, Hondo barked at them to let them know they were having too much fun.
Favorite Toy:
tennis ball--in his glory days--he was the best at chasing a tennis ball
Favorite Food:
Fresh chickens!! He also licked a whole pan of frozen manicotti once as it sat on the counter waiting for the oven to heat up. He liked whatever you were eating and would bark to remind you to give him a taste.
Favorite Walk:
all over the neighborhood
Best Tricks:
Hondo's best trick was escaping out of the yard. We thought of leasing him out on a daily basis if any homeowners wanted to check the stability and/or security of their fence. He could get out of any yard.
Arrival Story:
Before I met my husband, he lived in Austin, Texas and worked in Hondo, Texas at a newspaper. He was on his way back on an especially cold day when he spotted him on the side of the interstate howling at the sky...with one paw posed perfectly pathetic so someone would take pity. My husband made a U-ie on the interstate--went back and picked him up...and the rest is history. That was back in 1990.
Bio:
Hondo was definitely a mixed chow...from the shape of his head and FIERCE jaw strength when he didn't want to let go of the tennis ball, we determined he must have a little pit bull in there somewhere. However, he defied all the bad press those two breeds get by being the most gentle and trustworthy around strangers when compared to others. He died from cancer on May 18, 2004. We are still mourning his loss. Had Hondo been human, he'd probably would've been a used car salesman. In his more youthful days, he would've been a "Brad Pitt" type. We miss him terribly.
