Arrival Story:
I was looking for another dachshund and a coworker said his dog had puppies. I came over and saw Winston and I knew he was for me. He was born mostly blind (he is a double dapple ) but that doesn't stop this dog at all.

Winston has had it rough in the health department. His good eye got a cataract and bled. He is now blind in that eye totally. His bad eye has very little sight but he still does pretty good. He was diagnosed with a heart murmur and severely enlarged heart. He has had several breathing episodes, one I took him in to the oxygen chamber and he bounced back. He is now on a very strict diet of organic home made dog food and he has not had any breathing issues and his coughing has decreased dramatically. He has gotten really skinny so I've supplemented his diet with Precise dog food. He takes a host of medicines to control his heart issue. His heart gave out June 2012, but I did CPR and he came back. He is now on bonus time. Winston passed away on Dec 30, 2013. He had trouble breathing again and I could tell he was tired from the constant coughing. I let him go so he could be at rest. I know he didn't want to go and he hugged me in his last second of life. His heart was so weak that it didn't take much to help him cross over. I feel like I betrayed him but I know he will forgive me. I just wanted to spare him the slow miserable death that happens with CHF. He was getting to that point of his lungs filling with fluid and drugs were at the maximum point. I will miss him and will never forget him. He was my best friend.
