Fly Free My Angel

It is with deepest regrets that I write to inform you of my sweet Maddy's passing. She's been battling congestive heart failure since September 2010 and her poor little heart just couldn't keep up with her will to live. Her battle was one that should be admired forever. Never before have I met such a strong little dog. She was my soulmate that I was lucky enough to have in my life for 11 wonderful years. She will never be forgotten.

She's home!

I'm happy to report Maddy came home yesterday afternoon. Sorry for not posting earlier, I was a crazed doggie mom watching her like a hawk and not wanting to miss any signs of her needing to go back to the vet. On Sunday her kidney blood levels were through the roof, on Monday they cut in half, on Tuesday they were back to normal. All signs point to the NSAID Previcox leading her into an acute renal failure episode instead of her actually entering chronic kidney failure (thank dog) but only time will tell with that one. She has a vet appointment on Tuesday for a blood recheck so until then I'll just enjoy having my baby home with me. :)

Bloodwork update

We received some promising news today, her bloodwork improved in just 26 hours, so it looks like we caught the disease right as the kidneys were starting to give out. She'll be in the hospital until at least Wednesday, likely longer, until she's ready to start taking some meds orally (her tongue needs to heal and she needs to be eating regularly).

Bloodwork results:
1/2/11... 1/3/11
>140..... 64.9 - BUN
4.9...... 1.2 - Creatine
8.7...... 4.9 - Phosphorous
10.2..... 8.6 - Calcium (likely due to watering down the food)
6.2...... 5.3 - Total protein

BUN is high but no where near where it was. Creatine is normal level, Phosphorous is getting close. Calcium and protein are low but that's likely due to needing to water down the food until her tongue heals.

We appreciate all the warm wishes we've received so far. I know we haven't been on dogster much since Precious passed just over two years ago, but we still think of you often. (((hugs)))

Heart Failure and Kidney Failure

Maddy has been dealing with heart disease for a few years now, and has been on medication since early September. Those meds were increased in early November and things were going great. On Friday she started acting odd and not wanting to eat so I called the vet to make an appointment, on Saturday I noticed a spot on her tongue. She went in first thing on Sunday and was admitted with a necrotic spot on her tongue and kidney failure. She's been there for almost 24 hours now on IV fluids.

I'm completely at a loss for what to do. The blood work to be done this afternoon will tell me if there's even any chance of her kidneys starting to function again. She's so frail and thin, I can't believe how much she has changed in the past year. My poor baby...

Happy 9th Birthday to ME!

Wow, mom and I were reminiscing about our life together so far. She brought me home when I was just 7 weeks old, and we've created lots of wonderful memories so far. Stewie has been extra nice to me today too! Usually he's a bit of a pest but apparently he was told to behave. Can you believe he's actually listening? BOL

So here's to almost 9 years together, and hoping for many many more!

It changes daily. Sometimes it's my booda bunny or koala, sometimes a mini tennis ball, the fleece frisbee, or Mr. Carrot. Mom never knows what I'll be carrying around all day!

Long story short - mom once again finds herself single tonight so you'll probably be seeing a lot more of her on dogster.

It was sort of a long time coming, but I sure will miss having a dad around...

Change of plans...

In a 30 mile drive, we saw two accidents and were ran off the road once by a psycho driver who almost took out a whole line of cars when he swerved in the other lane a few feet later. Mom said she loves her family, but values our lives just as much so we decided to turn around.

No grandma's house, but we do get to stay nice and toasty at home with mom and dad and dogster!

Merry Christmas! We're goin to Grandmas!!!

We're leaving in about an hour for grandmas house and the grand tour of families. I heard mom grumbling about having to go to 5 different pawties in 4 days, but I can only go to 2 of them. Not fair! Oh well, at least Grandma and Grandpa will spoil me while they're gone.

Oh, and we go to meet a little pommie girl named Libby on our way home Sunday! I heard she had a really rough start to her life, but that all changed when Fuzzy Dog Rescue came into her life. If all goes well (ie: I behave myself in front of the rescue lady) she could be coming home then!

A new sisfur for Christmas? Maybe she'll distract Stewie from my toys so I can finally play with them in peace!
