Arrival Story:
One day at work one of the girls said she wanted to go to a local no-kill shelter to look for a kitten and we all decided to go after work. We walked through looking at all of the cats. We do a lot of spay/neuter for this particular shelter and 2 of my co-workers had never been there and so they were giving us a tour. We start looking at the dogs and in an area where dogs were not yet up for adoption sat this little female crested. I instantly picked her up and she started licking me and all my co-workers just kept saying "she's yours, your getting her, and they are all saying "we will donate toward her adoption, you have to get her!" And they did and I did. It wasn't long after I had her home that I figured out why she had probably been turned into rescue. Deaf and if I got out of her sight she would scream!! Very loudly. She could not stand to not see me so bad that for the first month or so she would jump into the shower with me. Now she just waits on the floor of the bathroom.
Bio:
Scarlette likes to take on the personality of other animals I have had in the past. I bottle feed Nigerian Dwarf goats (tiny, just a couple pounds when I am feeding them) and the last one I had and the first one she had met was Vinnie the Week Wacker. They would play and head butt each other and is why you see her in the bird bath in the photo. One day I was vacuming in my living room and I hear this tapping noise. I look out my window and Scarlette and Vinnie are on the hood of my restored 66 mustand coupe head butting each other!!!!!! She is also so fast that I have on several occasions witnessed her catch birds flying in the air. She chases them and snatches them mid-flight. She also caught a wild cotton-tail rabbit in my yard one morning after many days of trying. I was running toward Scarlette and the bunny because I did not want her to kill it and she just held it down so she could lick it. Scarlette has ears, but no ear canal - just skin under her ears - she is a sly little girl - she will go into the kitchen and get into stuff, then peaks around the door frame at me and smiles - I always know when she is doing something she shouldn't - her smile always gives her away. We recently took radiographs of her skull while she was sedated because she was shaking her head alot and the xray confirmed that she does infact have absolutely no ear canal. Nothing is there. The Dr. I work for was concerned about secretions being trapped with no outlet, but now that is no longer a concern.
