I Was A Hero!

I Was A Hero!

Late in the afternoon of September 3rd 2007 I was out in the yard like always. My female owner was mowing the yard, my male owner who has diabeties was inside resting. Well, a swarm of bees suddenly came up and attacked my female owner!! (we would later learn they were Africanized Bees!) They stung her several times and she couldn't get into the house. I was barking and jumping around like I always do and this attracted them to me so my owner had enough time to run into the house. I was covered from head to tow in bees, stinging again and again. My owners helplessly watched from the kitchen window. As most know there is nothing you can do about a swarm of Africanized Bees unless you are trained to take care of them and have the right chemicals to kill them. I fell to the ground and the swarm eventually died down long enough for my owners to get me out of the back yard and rush me to the ER vet. I threw up because of the shock of the poison in my system. They kept me over night. The next morning the vet said there was nothing else they could do. I had a very high temperature all through the night and they said I would be sick and not quite right for the rest of my life...IF the fever ever even broke which did not seem likely. The vet suggested putting me down as it was not humane to keep me alive any longer. So with my beloved owners around me I quietly slipped away and on to the Rainbow Bridge. Althought it was my last day on earth and it may have been very sad and painful...I hope everyone that reads my story will view me as what I was that day: A HERO!!!
