Leashfree at Last!

Mom has been taking me to the University lake to walk every day now that it's not mushy and slick. Yesterday I made a HUGE breakthrough, I got to go off lead and I came back everytime she called me. Of course that baggy full of Turkey dog bits helped me come runnin' too. My mom was so happy I came back every time. I got lots of belly rubs and more Turkey dog bits and she told me how cute and good I was. It was great. I got to run around with a really tall Poodle named Lola. She was beautiful. I'm in Corgi Love with Pretty Lola. I had to go back on lead though when mom saw the baby beaver. She was afraid I would go after it into the lake, but I barely noticed it. Too many other things to explore.

Today we hiked on the Turnagain trail from the Potter Marsh area to McHue Creek and back. About 5 and half miles. That's a really long way when your legs are only 4 inches long! Whew!!! I got to be off lead almost the whole time. It was really fun except when I got chased by an ornery airedale. The big giant moose was nicer than that airedale. I ran for a little bit then decided it was safer with my mom and ducked under the airedale's legs and raced for my mom. I was really fast and that long legged airedale ate my dust. :) (more mud than dust says mom). The weather was so nice. Felt like summer.

Gramma & Grampa visited

Gramma and Grampa came from Oregon for a visit. We had so much fun. We travelled to Valdez and Soldotna. Mom took me on a walk at Worthington Glacier. I also got to be a Corgi "sled" dog. My mom attached my leash to Grampa's walker and I helped him up the hill. It was fun! My Gramma was the best! She gave me all the pets and belly rubs a corgi could want. (And that's a lot of belly rubs!) She spoiled me a lot. After all I'm her best "Granddog." Aroooo!

Duffy's Big Adventure

Boy oh Boy! I had an adventure today. Mom had to run errands and since it was nice and sunny out Mom put me out in the back yard and the gate was open. She didn't know that and I escaped and got to explore the neighborhood. It was so fun! The construction workers down the street played with me and so did the boy! I love to play and run and wrestle with boys. I had a blast. Mom came home and found me playing with the boy, she called me and I came running. The worker guys stopped working and came to the street to tell her what a cool dog I was. She was glad that they liked me, but kinda mad that I was out runnin' around without her. I did get treats though because I came when she called me. Wow, what a day!

Spring Fever!

It's Springtime in Alaska! The snow is gone and it seems like overnight the trees leaves burst out and the grass turned green. I'm having a blast. Mom has been working in the yard and I'm helping her a lot. I dig hole all over for her. She's kinda picky though and only wants holes in certain places. I don't get it. The more holes the better if you ask me. BOL When the snow was melting I was her "mud Corgi" She didn't like that very well, but I'll tell you what....Digging in the mud was too fun! We are going for walks all the time now. We walk a couple of miles a day. Mom laughs at me because I come home and collapse with a Corgi Nap. But hey...you would too if your legs were only 4-5 inches long. Two miles is a really long way when you are short. BOL

Things are better

Things are better here, my aunt Margaret had her surgery and is doing great, she will get to come home in a few weeks maybe. I've had to spend a lot of time in my pen in the garage since Mom has been at the hospital with Margaret. Today she took me to Petco and got me a new squeaky toy to play with since she can't play with my as much as we would like right now. Pretty soon things will be back to normal and we can play a lot. I can't wait!

Something was wrong

My mom had to leave town for a funeral. She left me with her friend, Aunt Margaret. I knew that something was wrong...so I stuck to Aunt Margaret's side like glue. She doesn't let me sleep with her in her room because it makes her sneeze, but I knew something was wrong. I stayed right next to her door and sometimes I even cried because I was so worried. Whenever Aunt Margaret got up I stayed right with her and licked her toes or her legs to let her know I was there for her...something was wrong. This morning Aunt Margaret was very sick and couldn't really walk. Now she is in the hospital and going to have surgery. My mom is coming home tomorrow as soon as she can get a flight and in the meantime I'm staying with some friends of mom. Aunt Margaret told my mom that I must have known she was sick and hurt even before she did because I NEVER act like that...I'm independent and usually just go play with my toys. Mom is scared for her friend, and amazed at me and how I seemed to know that something was wrong.

Hmmph....Collars!

OK, OK, I admit it. The collar isn't really 500 lbs. and I'm not getting hurt by it. My mom is really stubborn and is making me wear it ALL THE TIME! I still don't like it and have to try and rub it off once in a while...just in principle. It isn't soooo bad I guess. It was boring not being able to chase the squeaky balls and run in my snow track, so when Mom isn't looking I play and run just like I did before she started making me wear this stupid collar. Mom keeps talking about something called "obedience class" she says I will have fun and get to show everyone how smart I am, but it sounds like work to me. I'll let you know how that goes.

Goodbye Tucker

My pup pal Tucker Bunns went to the Rainbow Bridge this morning at 0317. It's very sad, but he is no longer sick or having any pain. The Corgi club and other dogsters really embraced Tucker and his family. It was a wonderful thing to see. A bright spot in the worry and sadness.
Goodbye Tucker, you will be missed.

In my last diary entry I mentioned my pup pal Tucker Buns was very sick. He is still very sick, in the Veterinary hospital getting medicine and fluids and plasma transfusion. The Corgi club has set up a stroll for Tucker.
