Arrival Story:
My husband and I found Moonshadow at a wonderful shelter that had a lot of small adult dogs for adoption. We were looking for a small grown dog. Most of the small dogs there were not good candidates for adoption due to the psychological trauma of surrender to a pound or a history of abuse/neglect, but this shelter cares for them for as long as it takes for them to become adoptable by the right people(usually never to a family with children!). Moonshadow had been there for three months, and had finally stopped growling and snapping at his caretakers. When we met him he was so sweet and well behaved, and when he turned over on his back so we could rub his belly, I just fell in love. At the time we adopted him, we didn't even know he was a Lhasa apso, but once we had his fur shaved down (he was matted and had a skin condition with sores), we saw what he really looked like. His skin condition has cleared up, as he went on an allergy diet immediately and was given a course of prednisone. He is our first dog, and he has become such an important part of our family in the short time we've had him.

Bio:
He is 6 0r 7 years-old. We inherited a few problems with Moonshadow, but overall he is extremely trainable, obedient and well-behaved. He loves to be petted, groomed, and sits patiently every day while I clean his eyes. He loves playing fetch with his ball, but he reluctantly gives it back on command as he prefers to chew it. Moonshadow thinks he's the king, so he's not the kind of dog that will always come to you for affection just because you look at him. He more often waits for us to ask him to come for it. When we encounter a person outside of the family, he sometimes howls at them a bit if they haven't petted him for long enough! I act as interpreter for him in these situations, because they don't know what to make of that behavor. He gives an alert type barks when somebody comes to the door or he hears something strange inside the house or outside. We show our appreciation when he does this, as right now, this is his job.
