Happy Birthday To My Miracle Girl Georgie!!!

I'm so excited that tomorrow March 10th is Georgie's 14th birthday. A little over a year ago, she was hospitalized and the vets did not think she would make it. All they could offer was to open her up, biopsy all her organs and see if they could come up with a diagnosis. At the age of almost 13, the vets had no idea what was going on. She would've needed anesthesia to do the surgery. I didn't think she would make it through the ordeal. The vet even said he wouldn't choose this option for his own dog! I opted out of this course of action and asked for her to be aggressively medically managed. The vets even brought up the "e" conversation which I refused to choose. Within days she was discharged home with the title "Miracle Dog". All of her checkups have been stable since, except for vestibular dysfunction where she would become incapacitated from dizziness. They said it should last 2 weeks and resolve. It lasted almost 2 months. And she has had reoccurences of the same symptoms. We saw a neurologist who said her symptoms do not present like a brain tumor, but we don't know and could do an MRI. This would also take anesthesia, and it would only be for diagnostic purposes. If she did have a brain tumor, there was probably nothing appropriate to her age and condition that could be done. She has been responding to meclizine which is actually for nausea and vomiting related to the dysfunction. It does not treat the dysfunction. The neurologist doesn't know why it seems to work, but she said keep using it! She has learned to compensate very well, and so have we in monitoring and managing her. So again we've opted out of doing anything invasive like anesthesia. If she needs it for something acute, then we'll go ahead and get the MRI. Since then her checkups have shown her to be medically stable. I have aggressively managed her daily at home with monitoring everything from food to walks to poops to cleanliness.

In the meantime, Georgie is happy, eating well and loving her walks. Some days she's a little confused, her hearing and sight aren't as good as they used to be, but either are mine! Some days she runs on her walks and plays with me. Most of the time she follows me and settles next to me - something she never did when she was younger, being Miss Independent! In her birthday photo, she is sitting on Daddy's lap snoozing, loving the attention. We all seem to be coping well. The other dogs still respect her and don't bother her, although they know she's part of the pack. As long as she remains fairly stable, I can't imagine that we need to change a thing.

Needless to say, she continues to be my Miracle Dog. She represents unconditional love and significant history together. Time will be measured by before Georgie and after Georgie.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY little one.

Sophie Bean posted this in Schnauzers Rule: rowth_and_development/calculating_age_in_dog_years/calculati ng_age_in_dog_years

A shortened version of url:

It's a age calculating tool from Dogster's Dog Owning Manual.

I'll be 14 years old in a few weeks which equals 84, but I still feel like I'm 21!!! ROFBOL!!!

Eventful Week So Far

Over the weekend, I got to go on a girl's weekend out of town ~ just me & mom. We went to a town where she used to live, and stayed in a nice hotel. There were 2 other rooms next to ours that had doggies who barked when we walked by, something I would never do!!! We never did see them though. Our room was a short walk to the elevator which we would take to get down to the garage and out onto the street. Or we would walk right through the reception area out to the entrance. Sometimes we stopped and warmed ourselves by the fire. We walked all over town, even went shopping. We went to a dog specialty store and I got a new pink jacket and an elevated food bowl. I had so much fun modeling for everyone, and of course got some treats. Mom took me to a store where she could get some clothes, but I headed for the door ready to go back for treats - BOL!!! We walked up and down some good sized hills. On the downsides, I even had to run a little. Mom let me walk as much as I wanted. It was so cool. We had a refrigerator & microwave so mom could prepare my meals. One morning we got room service, and mom ordered a poached egg to add to my kibble - YUM!!!

Then on Sunday, I was named Schnauzer of the Week in Schnauzers Rule! Everyone is so kind to me. They even started a thread where other schnauzers get to ask me questions. It's a lot of fun.

Today, SRs leader Milly, announced that I would be leaving as an administrator. Mom has so much to deal with that it's just gotten to be too much work. She has been so dedicated to it and has loved doing it. But she says Priorities! So now we get to play in the group like everyone else. There is a great group of admins in the group and I'm sure they won't miss me before long!!!

Well let's see what the rest of the week brings!

Happy Valentine's Month!

We had a lot of fun during our Valentines month in Schnauzers Rule! We had a photo stroll, and then the photos were posted on our main page. We also had a poetry contest and had so many wonderful entries! We had multiple winners for 2nd and 3rd place because it was so hard to choose. We started a thread where everyone posted who was their Valentine. My special valentine pal is SIMON!

Murphy my angel boypup will be in my heart furever and ever, but my big giant schnauzer pal will watch after me down here. Murph, you've got the big picture covered from up in Heaven, and Simon's got it covered down here on the ground - BOL!!!

I hope everyone had as happy a Valentines month as we did in Schnauzers Rule!!! BTW it's the best group on dogster - BOL!!!

Secret Pal Week

In honor of Secret Pal Day on an Jan 11, 2009, I started a game in Schnauzers Rule. This is a game that I saw in the dogster forum and thought it would be fun!!! After everyone who wanted to play signed up, I randomly picked a secret pal for every one of them. For the Week of Jan 11-17 each pup with a secret pal surprised them with all sorts of virtual gifts, links, pictures, etc.

I helped forward things as a secret pal helper on behalf of secret pals in order to keep their ID a secret. Everyone was advised to treat their pal as they would want to be treated if they were short on rosettes! Many pups decided to play Dogster's Dog Breed Game so they could win lots of rosettes, then they sent them to their pals. That is SO cool!

Today on the 17th, we are revealing secret pals. It seems everyone loved playing and I think it's developed some new friendships!!! That's what we're all about. Woo hoo...success!!!

Murphy is Schnauzer of the Year

I am so grateful to everyone voting for Murphy as Schnauzer of the Year in our Schnauzers Rule group. My angel boypup deserves it! He & his mother have always been so kind and gracious to others ~ always offering support, checking in with friends to see how they're doing, and adding positive messages in the group. It's also fitting that even though he just crossed the Rainbow Bridge, that he be recognized for his contributions to our group and to Schnauzerdom. Thank you Murphy for all you and your mom contribute. We love you!

Happy New Year!

Whew, we posted the Highlights of 2008 in our Schnauzers Rule Group on New Years Eve. It was really fun to review all that happened over 2008. If mom hadn't been so busy painting etc. our guest rooms, she would've had more time to write about more stuff! Actually, it's a really active group and there was a lot to review. It was fun to see what our group was up to. Thank goodness that SAMSON started the Schnauzer Scoop or we wouldn't have remembered half of it!

Mom and Dad were up REaLLY late last night. Every one slept in until 9am, ate at 10am, and walks didn't even start until around noon. Is this any way to start a new year...apparently mom thinks it was a luxury. Humph...keeping to my schedule is a luxury.

I heard mom is going out of town for a couple of days. I never like that, but Vickie will come to stay with us. We like her! Then we're going to have a lot of visitors for the rest of the month. We're excited that amongst the visitors is my human sister & her baby. Mom brought in this wierd contraption to trap the baby - it's a seat with all these wierd toys attached. It was funny to watch Finnegan sneaking up on it to see what the heck it was. But if it keeps the rugrat from wandering around my dog bed, I'll be happy!

These are my new years resolutions as posted in Schnauzers Rule:
promise to nap as much as possible with mom or dad, be happy every time mom or dad comes home, walk at a pace that Molly is comfortable, and ignore the brothers as much as possible. I know I can keep all of those!!!

Well, time to go snooze next to mom. Oh, and Happy New Year everyone.

Our family is so sad at the passing of my boypup Murphy. I don't even know what to write in my diary yet. I do want to say thank you for being a part of my life. Your mom has been such a support to so many others in their times of distress, I hope we can adequately be there for her to help ease the pain.

Here are some poems for my Murphy.

God looked around His garden
And He found an empty place
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your precious face

He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest;
God' s Garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain
He knew you' d never ever
Get well on earth again.

So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered " Peace be thine "
Then He took you up to Heaven
With Hands so gentle and kind.

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God welcomed you home.

If tears could build a stairway
and memories a lane.
I would walk right up to heaven
and bring you back again.

No farewell words were spoken.
No time to say "Goodbye"
You were gone before we knew it
and only God knows why.

My heart still aches with sadness
and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to love you.
No one can ever know.

But now I know you want me
to mourn for you no more.
To remember all the happy times
life still has much in store.

Since you will never be forgotten
I pledge to you this day.
A hallowed place within my heart
is where you will always stay.

I love you Murphy and you will live on in the hearts of those who love you!
