Uncle is sick!April 8th 2009 10:27 am[ View A Comments ]
My favorite Uncle Randy is in the hospital!!! He collapsed the other day and had to be revived by the paramedics. He hasn't woken up yet for anyone. I bet if mom could sneak me in to the hospital, he'd wake up from one of my kisses and he'd pet me like he always does. We lived together for a year, and I took up sleeping in Uncle Randy's room on his bed!!! Mom couldn't believe it but she was happy that I loved my Uncle Randy. Paws together for his recovery.
Beach TimeMarch 22nd 2009 1:13 am[ View A Comments ]
Today, Knute and I got to go to the beach and be off leash! There were lots of other dogs that he played with while I ran around and sniffed seaweed. At one time I was sniffing around a big rock at the water's edge. Then all of a sudden I was in up to my chest!!! Mom was right there so she pulled me out but I ran back into it, hehehe. Then I ran and ran and ran. I had a very good day at the beach. Also, we went to a wharf and watched sea otters swimming around. Afterwards, I had a lot of great snoozes!
On vacationMarch 20th 2009 7:05 pm[ View A Comments ]
I'm on vacation with mom & dad. We're staying at a beach town near some long time friends of mom's. Dad towed the Ural motorcycle behind us. Today Mom & I got to ride in the sidecar through a very pretty area. Our friends have a 100 lb Bouvier named Knute. He is really sweet. Kinda looks like a schnauzer on steroids BOL!!! We've been getting along really well. Mom will post a photo later of the two of us.
Life goes on...March 14th 2009 5:35 pm[ View A Comments ]
I'm doing a lot better! Am starting to eat a little kibble with my rice and cottage cheese. My energy is back. Mom & Dad are traveling later this week and I'm going to get to go with them. Mom doesn't want to let me out of her sight! Vicki will housesit the rest of the pack. She'll be sad that I'm not here, but right now mommy gets dibs she says.
It's my birthday and I'll bark if I want to...March 10th 2009 6:51 pm[ View A Comments ]
Today is my 14th birthday. I woke up sick and pukey. YAY!!! By afternoon, my stomach had calmed down but I still had to go see my vet. I got fluids, blood tests and an abdominal ultrasound again. Nothing ominous on ultrasound. I have to fast for 24 hrs and then start small frequent meals and see how I do. One thing I've learned after all these years, if it isn't one thing, it's another. BOL!!!
Happy Birthday To My Miracle Girl Georgie!!!March 9th 2009 9:56 pm[ View A Comments ]
I'm so excited that tomorrow March 10th is Georgie's 14th birthday. A little over a year ago, she was hospitalized and the vets did not think she would make it. All they could offer was to open her up, biopsy all her organs and see if they could come up with a diagnosis. At the age of almost 13, the vets had no idea what was going on. She would've needed anesthesia to do the surgery. I didn't think she would make it through the ordeal. The vet even said he wouldn't choose this option for his own dog! I opted out of this course of action and asked for her to be aggressively medically managed. The vets even brought up the "e" conversation which I refused to choose. Within days she was discharged home with the title "Miracle Dog". All of her checkups have been stable since, except for vestibular dysfunction where she would become incapacitated from dizziness. They said it should last 2 weeks and resolve. It lasted almost 2 months. And she has had reoccurences of the same symptoms. We saw a neurologist who said her symptoms do not present like a brain tumor, but we don't know and could do an MRI. This would also take anesthesia, and it would only be for diagnostic purposes. If she did have a brain tumor, there was probably nothing appropriate to her age and condition that could be done. She has been responding to meclizine which is actually for nausea and vomiting related to the dysfunction. It does not treat the dysfunction. The neurologist doesn't know why it seems to work, but she said keep using it! She has learned to compensate very well, and so have we in monitoring and managing her. So again we've opted out of doing anything invasive like anesthesia. If she needs it for something acute, then we'll go ahead and get the MRI. Since then her checkups have shown her to be medically stable. I have aggressively managed her daily at home with monitoring everything from food to walks to poops to cleanliness.

Eventful Week So FarFebruary 24th 2009 7:46 pm[ View A Comments ]
Over the weekend, I got to go on a girl's weekend out of town ~ just me & mom. We went to a town where she used to live, and stayed in a nice hotel. There were 2 other rooms next to ours that had doggies who barked when we walked by, something I would never do!!! We never did see them though. Our room was a short walk to the elevator which we would take to get down to the garage and out onto the street. Or we would walk right through the reception area out to the entrance. Sometimes we stopped and warmed ourselves by the fire. We walked all over town, even went shopping. We went to a dog specialty store and I got a new pink jacket and an elevated food bowl. I had so much fun modeling for everyone, and of course got some treats. Mom took me to a store where she could get some clothes, but I headed for the door ready to go back for treats - BOL!!! We walked up and down some good sized hills. On the downsides, I even had to run a little. Mom let me walk as much as I wanted. It was so cool. We had a refrigerator & microwave so mom could prepare my meals. One morning we got room service, and mom ordered a poached egg to add to my kibble - YUM!!!
Happy Valentine's Month!February 15th 2009 11:06 am[ View A Comments ]
We had a lot of fun during our Valentines month in Schnauzers Rule! We had a photo stroll, and then the photos were posted on our main page. We also had a poetry contest and had so many wonderful entries! We had multiple winners for 2nd and 3rd place because it was so hard to choose. We started a thread where everyone posted who was their Valentine. My special valentine pal is SIMON!
