Thanksgiving Tag

November 8th 2007 8:40 pm
[ View A Comments ]

It'S THANKSGIVING TAG!!!!

Here are the rules:
Because it’s Thanksgiving time, there is a change to the rules. Each player needs to tell seven special things they are thankful for. Tagged dogs must post the rules in their diary and their 7 things. Then choose 7 pups to tag and list their names. Let them know by pawmail or rosette that they have been tagged and to read your diary for the instructions on how to play.

Seven Things I’m Thankful For:

1. I’m so thankful that my mom and dad take such good care of me.
2. I’m thankful that I have such good health after 12 years.
3. I’m thankful for my dog walker, Paula.
4. I’m thankful that I get to go on family vacations, usually to the beach.
5. I’m thankful for the massages that mom gives me.
6. I’m thankful for all the tummy rubs dad gives me.
7. I’m thankful for all my Dogster friends.

I am tagging:
1. Murphy
2. Kiki
3. Duncan
4. Milly
5. Maddie
6. Bonnie

This is a fun game where you can meet and learn new things about some of your pals. Have fun with this!

Happy Thanksgiving from my pack to yours!

Big Week!

This has been a big week for our family. Saturday was Annie's crossing to the Rainbow Bridge Day. She got lots of love & support from the Rainbow Bridge Angel Babies and some of her Schnauzers Rule friends. Mom really needed the support through it cuz we both miss Annie a lot. Then on Sunday I was named Schnauzer of the Week in SR, and Annie was named Angel of the Week in RBAB!!!! Wow. Congratulations to both of us from lots of people. Then today I received an email stating I won 2nd place in Photo Contest 07. It was a contest someone had in the forum - just a fun one!!! Then on the 14th it would've been Annie's 10th birthday, and the RBAB angels are already saying happy birthday. Wow - lots of attention for us this week. We're feeling really loved and appreciated. We've always thought that the dogster community has been a great place for making friends and giving whatever we can to other pups & their parents. It's really nice when you get some recognition for it. Mom does a lot for us, and we know it makes her happy. Thanks everyone!!!!

The loss of a great friend

Yesterday we lost our dear friend Milly, our leader of the Schnauzers Rule group. It is so sad when you think of the pain her family must feel. I know it so well from losing Annie, Lexi and Boomer over the last couple of years. One moment life is so palpable, the next so ethereal. Milly brought us a wonderful place where she provided a gentle supportive gathering for all the schnauzers to explore and to share with each other. We became a kindred spirit in the area of schnauzers - an intense, smart, gregarious, mischievous, joyful little dog - just like the group. Milly always had a kind word, greeted every new member, sent out presents on special days. Even when she was ill, she & her mom managed to check in and remain positive. The group is only 1 year old, but it has drawn over 800 schnauzers to it. So many feel it's one of the best groups on Dogster - we happen to think so.

Dogster and Schnauzers Rule has brought a sense of community into our lives. We experience births and deaths, joy and pain, happiness and fear, laughter and tears. We share much with other parents about how to raise our dogs, how to care for them, how to keep them healthy. We share our triumphs, our mistakes. It's such a microcosm of the rest of our world. But there is something a little different about this place. These people are really nice people. Everyone that's here is a bit dog crazy & sees life from a positive perspective. At least that's our experience. We love giving what we can to others, and feel that it's returned 10 times more. We are blessed. We are thankful.

Milly, thank you for the legacy you left for schnauzers on dogster. We couldn't have done it without you - your gentleness, your encouragement, your support, your joy for life. We know you're watching over us and hope that someday you'll join us again. Take care of your parents, let them know that your spirit lives on. You live on in the hearts of many.

Here are 2 poems for Milly:

Bridge Called Love

It takes us back to brighter years,
to happier sunlit days
and to precious moments
that will be with us always.

And these fond recollections
are treasured in the heart
to bring us always close to those
from whom we had to part.

There is a bridge of memories
from earth to Heaven above...
It keeps our dear ones near us
It's the bridge that we call love.

Good-by To An Old Friend

Today your spirit chose to take flight and leave this earth,
And for a short time we shared all that was.

You made me laugh,
You made me cry,
You taught me to look at life through different eyes.

Your love was a constant, and you gave it freely,
Asking for nothing in return.

Today you are at peace.
I shall miss you old friend.

Holiday Time

It's been a really busy holiday season. It started with Dad taking some new photos and mom spending lots of time putting together Christmas cards. Lots of people coming by the house. Lots of mail for me, Finn, Winston, Molly & Annie. Mom leaving a lot and coming into the house with lots of bags, some of which she's hiding in our drawer....hmmm...if only I could reach it. There are wreaths on the front doors. Mom says we're not putting up the big tree this year because of the boys. Winston has been here about 2 months, and he and Finnegan run & wrestle all of the time. They grab toys and tug at them. Mom is afraid that while she's at work they'd tug at the tree or think it's that new fangled indoor plumbing. She hoping next year they're calmer. I don't know why Santa Paws would leave them anything since they're such Terrieristas! But mom says it's cuz they're boys!!! She grew up with all boys so she knows what I'm going through. Molly & I play a little then go about our beauty sleep & walks without them! Anyway, back to Christmas - mom says she's hoping that no one gets up onto the table and gets the table top tree. When we were getting our photos taken, we used the dining room table. Finnegan hopped up right onto the table to get Winston's treats - OY VEY!!! BOYS!!!

It certainly is a lively time of year around here. Our Annie Angel stops in occasionally just to give mom a little love. Christmas was always a special time for the 3 of us.

Our Schnauzers Rule group is just hopping these days. Lots of new members. New look to our page with all of the holiday photos. We have a Christmas logo that Charley & Fritz's dad designed! A Dear Santa Paws letter contest with some cool prizes that Maddie's mom makes. Samson is trying to keep us updated with all of the new in the Schnauzer Scoop which we need cuz we're so yappy! And we're trying to put together a recap of the year to share in the new year. Maddie's mom is making membership cards. WOW - so busy!!!

We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, or just some peace and quiet!!!

love,
Georgie

New Years Resolution

I entered the Schnauzers Rule New Years Resolution contest. I'm wearing a tight tee shirt that says I ate Santa's Cookies. I resolve not to eat extra treats. But mom has me on such a stricter diet than ever now, I never even get extra treats. And I sure didn't eat his cookies. Someone commented that it looks like I did!!!! OMD, I do look chubby in the photo. Someone else said I was a Schnausage!!! I'm 13in tall and weigh 13 lbs. I guess I'm just a tubby short girl. But I do have my longer winter cut and the tee shirt is small. oh no, now I'm worried I'm losing my girlish figure in my later years. Sigh, I remember the days....

Mom, you need to quit work and take me on 3 walks a day. Twice isn't cutting it!

Not feeling well again...

January 9th 2008 6:15 pm

Two days ago I stopped eating about 1/4 way through dinner. Mom tried just chicken & I didn't want it, or a treat. She knew there was something wrong because I usually love my dinner. When I went on my walk, I had diarrhea. Then I was in & out all night long - fortunately we have a doggie door. My belly is not painful like before. Mom thought she'd try a little rice & chicken the next morning and if I don't eat, I'd have to go into the vet.

Well, I didn't eat or drink and had really severe diarrhea, so mom took me into emergency. My usual vets weren't there, but I saw Dr. Arnold. I saw her once before and she's really nice. I had blood tests which were normal and an abdominal ultrasound. My entire small and large bowel are inflamed but no fluid leaking into the abdomen this time. This time the pancreas is also enlarged. They also saw some adhesions from the inflammation in my small bowel from last October's illness - right now nothing to do about that. They call it enterocolitis vs some chronic form of pancreatitis. So back on pepcid & metronidazole again. I also had fluids subQ today. If I get worse they'll want to hospitalize me. We'll just have to wait. Mom was scared.

So when I got home I got my medicine and was starving by dinnertime!!! So mom gave me a little rice & chicken. It tasted so good. Then I went to sleep. Mom took me outside before we all went to bed at night. No diarrhea which is a good sign.

This morning I was hungry again! So mom gave me 2 small meals today and I tolerated them pretty well. I'm still not drinking fluids so mom is adding it to my food. Dr. Arnold called this morning and told mom how to check for dehydration - and I didn't have it!!! This afternoon I walked up and down the street and had a little bit of diarrhea but not like yesterday. So mom gave me my chicken & rice dinner and I loved it!!!

We'll see how it goes tonight and tomorrow!

Today was a better day...

I'm feeling better today. I woke up really hungry and full of energy! I still wasn't freely drinking water, so mom asked for suggestions from our SR group. Maddie's mom suggested bottled water. So mom tried it before she went to work and I lapped 4 times - it made her really happy. When Paula, our dog walker, came over today she had to give me water through the eye dropper again. But in the afternoon when dad was home, he saw me drinking again. Mom keeps checking my gums to make sure I'm not dehydrated. And I passed tonight. I have 2 more days of medicine so hopefully everything will straighten out with the poops too.

My mom forgot to mention that on my ultrasound they saw adhesions in my bowel which occur after inflammation, like I had last October. They are not a problem unless you get an adhesion that blocks the bowel, which I don't have. So nothing to worry about right now. My mid section is always going to be a little larger due to it. So that explains why I look like I ate those extra cookies - BOL!!!

Mom is still following me around checking on me all of the time. I just consider it extra belly rubs. And getting picked up and carried around a lot is pretty nice. It's ok mom, you can relax now!

Our Schnauzers Rule group and Annie's Rainbow Bridge Angel admin group have been really supportive. It so nice to have my dogster pals and pawrents looking out for me and mom!

Wow - I was chosen for one of the diary picks of the day!!!!

Mom was SO excited when she told me my diary was one of the picks for the day. We LOVE dogster and it's such an honor! We've always thought that the dogster community has been a great place for making friends and giving whatever we can to other pups & their parents. It's really nice when you get some recognition for it. Thanks everyone!!!!

We added this to the Schnauzers Rule Year in Review, and this is what our family thinks about dogster:

“No matter what, we are always here for each other. To celebrate accomplishments & milestones, to welcome our new pups, to problem solve issues, to share a laugh, to support one another through illness, to grieve when one of us crosses the Rainbow Bridge. No competition, no judgment. Just here.”

Well, I've just recovered from an illness and just returned from the groomers. I guess I should go get ready for my camera shoot....BOL!!! Just kidding.

love,
Georgie
