If I didn't have animals...

If I didn't have animals . . . .

I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.

My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.

All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of hair.

When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like a kennel.

When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there.

I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.

I would not have strange presents under my Christmas tree -- dog bones, stuffed animals, toys, treats nor would I have to explain to
people why I wrap them.

I would have money....and no guilt to go on a real vacation.

I would not be on a first-name basis with 6 veterinarians, as I put their yet-unborn grandkids thru college.

The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave him/her/it ALONE.

My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.and no hot wire across the driveway.

My house would not look like a day care center, toys everywhere.

My pockets would not contain things like treats or an extra leash.

I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L, F-R-I-S-B-E- E, W-A-L-K or T-R-E-A-T.

I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.

I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog/cat ties them down too much....never mind the herd of horses!

I'd look forward to spring and the melting of snow instead of dreading mud season.

I would not have to answer the question "Why do you have so many dogs/animals?" from people who will never have the joy in their lives
of knowing they are loved unconditionally by someone as close to an angel as they will ever get!!

How empty my life would be.

Poor sweet Joker!

We are so sad today because little Joker is so sick. He had emergency surgery for an intestinal problem and his recovery is pretty iffy right now. This isn't supposed to happen to our pups. All we can do is pray for him, his brother Rascal and their whole family. We've all added a photo of Joker as our main picture to send healing thoughts. There is quite a network of dogsters who are participating. We love you little guy. Get well.

I can hardly breathe today...

So much loss with Joker and Dutchess and her 2 pups (Rowdy earlier this week and Sadie today). It's overwhelming although these are people & dogs I have never met, but have dealt with so often through dogster. When I can step back from the pain, it's amazing to look at what has just occurred. We've created a network of love & support & strength across the world around a little pup. We're all helping each other through this. I'm sure there are not a lot of us who have ever personally met, but we feel as if we have a huge group of friends out there. This is a very powerful lesson.

This was something special posted today:

I will lend to you for a while
a puppy, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and to mourn for him when he is gone.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe for two or three
but will you, till I call him back
take care of him for me?
He will bring his charms to gladden you
and (should his stay be brief)
you will always have his memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise that he will stay,
since all from earth return,
but there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.
I have looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true
and from the folk that crowd life’s land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love
nor think the labor vain
nor hate me when I come to take my pup back again.
I fancied that I heard them say
“Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done,”
For all the joys this pup will bring,
the risk of grief you will run.
Will you shelter him with tenderness
Will you love him while you may
And for the happiness you will know forever grateful stay.
But should I call him back
much sooner than you have planned
Please brave the bitter grief that comes
and try to understand.
If, by your love, you have managed
my wishes to achieve,
In memory of him that you have loved,
cherish every moment with your faithful bundle,
and know he loved you too.

Jack Johnson ~ Talk Of The Town
(feat. Kawika Kahiapo)

I want to be where the talk of the town
Is about last night when the sun went down
And the trees all dance
And the warm wind blows in that same old sound
And the water below gives a gift to the sky
And the clouds give back every time they cry
And make the grass grow green beneath my toes
And if the sun comes out
I'll paint a picture all about
The colors I've been dreaming of
The hours just don't seem enough
To put it all together
Maybe it's as strange as it seems
And the trouble I find is that the trouble finds me
It's a part of my mind it begins with a dream
And a feeling I get when I look and I see
That this world is a puzzle, I'll find all of the pieces
And put it all together, and then I'll rearrange it
I'll follow it forever
Always be as strange as it seems
Nobody ever told me not to try
And the water below gives a gift to the sky
And the clouds give back every time they cry
And make the grass grow green beneath my toes
And if the sun comes out
I'm going to paint a picture all about
The colors I've been dreaming of
The hours just don't seem enough
To put it all together
Always be as strange as it seems

My friend Duncan tagged me!

Here are the rules:

Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their Diary the rules & their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary, or, send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!

So here are 7 fun facts about Georgie....

I was born in Ft. Myers, Florida!

I was originally saved to show but turned out 1/2 inch too short!

I had a litter of 3 pups once!

I am very independent!

I march along the perimeter of the yard or any enclosed space at least once a day!

I am a master squirrel chaser!

Just a dog...

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog."

They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog,"
but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog,"
and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."

"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.

"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a dog", I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog", but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a man or woman."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog"
just smile...
because they "just don't understand."

This is from my April entry when we lost Joker, our little schnauzer pal, and it has been proved again!

Community Engagement

My mom & I have recently become administrators in 2 groups:
» ~*Card Shower Gang*~

» Senior Dogs Club

Mom had the need to "do something" for others going through times when they needed support or when they wanted to celebrate. We lost our sister Annie last November and went through a lot of grieving. During that time she learned information from dog trainers, other pawrents, websites and dogster groups that helped us through it. She wanted to share that with others. But she likes celebrating the good times too.

So she joined the Card Shower Gang: Spreading love & joy one card at a time! Sending cards to those that are sick, passed on to the rainbow bridge, birthday, need cheering up etc! She became the official greeter for new members, and that's how she became admin.

Then because I'm a "SENIOR" dog now, mom always wants to make sure my unique needs are met. Recently having 2 senior dogs with health issues who crossed the rainbow bridge in the past 1-1/2 years, she wants to learn & share about these issues. Blackie, the admin, had a great feature posting Tips. That's when she asked Blackie from the Senior Dogs Club if she could add Senior Health Tips. So that's when she became an admin. She's hoping to eventually stimulate discussions with it. With so many dogs joining that group, she's hoping that everyone will start asking questions and sharing their knowledge & stories.

Mom feels that dogster gives her & us a lot. She feels a sense of community in learning to care for us, and feels it's our responsibility to give back to that community. She's not a know-it-all, just wants to help & learn. So she's got me working through what are supposed to be my "retirement" years. But she still lets us have fun in groups too!!! My favorite thing of course.... So I don't mind, if we can help 1 other pup or family, we're happy to do it!!!!
