 Quick Bio:
 Birthday: July 1st 2005
Likes: belly rubs, playing outside, snuggling with mom & dad, shredding paper, playing with her boyfriend doggie next door, playing/fighting/snuggling with Clementine (the kitty)

Pet-Peeves: Ruby HATES baths and getting her nails clipped - unfortunately, she loves eating kitty poo from the litter box (eew!) so we keep the box out of her reach...

Favorite Toy: Rope tug, cloth frisbee thingie... and Clementine, of course

Favorite Food: pretzels, pears, meat bones from the butcher, the cat's food (unfortunately) and anything else she can snuffle off the floor (she's a little piggy)

Favorite Walk: ANYWHERE - she just loves to be outside

Best Tricks: non-stop tail wagging action, dramatic leg thumping when scratched in the right places, playing in fallen leaves, bouncing on the bed, and curling up in the itty bitty cat bed which is way too small for her

Arrival Story: Ruby is - according to ours and the vet's best guesses - a Dachshund-Lab-Terrier mix. She's got the cute, stumpy legs of a Dachshund, the body and sweet temperament of a small (and somewhat elongated) Lab, with the wiry coat and beardy face of a Terrier. Whatever her mix, they got it just right. This bundle of tail-wagging sweetness came our way in the summer of 2006.
In June, my boyfriend and I moved in together after a long-term long-distance relationship. We knew we wanted to get a dog and a cat, and had already been on the verge of adopting a couple of different puppies. We then realized we needed to wait for the right pup to come along, even if it took a while - plus, it would be good to wait a little bit until we were more settled in the new apartment, etc. We went to the local Chapel Hill pound to pick out a kitten (my darling Clementine - a pint-sized terror that rules our household), and as we were filling out the paperwork, we noticed this sweet little black doggie wagging her tail off at us from the kennels. The shelter was closing in 15 minutes, but this little girl just wooed us over to her cage. We quickly took her to the meet-and-greet room, and it was apparent from the first minute that we had met our dog. When you meet the right dog, you just know. With those floppy ears, happy smile, and sweet personality - it was love at first sight. She has a tail that wags so hard, her whole little body wiggles with joy (something we both look forward to every day when we come home!).
She loves every single person she meets, and could not possibly be more friendly (guard-dog she is not - unless she licked a burgler into submission!). Everywhere we take her, people notice - everyone always wants to know what kind of dog she is. She's often mistaken for a black Lab puppy, probably because of her scampery personality and puppy-like friendliness. She loves kids, always running up to them and flopping over so they can rub her belly. She really is the happiest, sweetest dog I've ever known.
