Arrival Story:
We adopted Thor from a boxer rescue when he was nine months old. Apparently, he was being abused, and was kept in his crate all day. We were asked by our rescue to sign papers stating that we would never crate him due to this.

Bio:
Wow, was he full of energy!! He only knew the sign for sit when we got him, so we paid a trainer to come to our house to teach Thor (and us) how to communicate through sign language. He learned so fast!! He was such a smart boy! Just a couple weeks after we got him, we found him trying to sleep standing up. After our vet did some research, she came to the conclusion that he had viral meningitis. She put him on high doses of steroids (if you have never seen a pet on steroids...just pray that you never have to!!) and after a couple of weeks the symptoms and the pain went away. He did have to remain on lower (tolerable) doses of the meds for 6 months. He was the normal high energy boxer after that...but it was shortlived. 6 months after getting off the meds, we found him again trying to sleep standing up. He was so painful. Again, our vet suspected meningitis, but she wanted to be sure this time. We packed up the car and drove accross the state to an animal neurologist where they confirmed meningitis with a spinal tap. This time was much worse. He was not responding to the steriods and was put on chemo along with meds to protect his stomach. After 2 months of fighting, his body gave up. He could no longer walk and we decided to send him on to the rainbow bridge (if you have never read the poem- look it up on the internet!). He didn't reach his 2nd birthday. We still miss him very much and are actually crying typing this out...Maia never got to know her big brother. Thor does have another website that was created when he was still with us at http://www.whiteboxer.netfirms.com /thor.htm (If you copy/paste this address, you'll have to remove the space after you paste it.)
