Arrival Story:
saw emma on the BARC website - they rescue berners from puppy mills and inhumane auctions. after the application process, i drove out the 8 hours to kansas city, picked her up (with a foster), and spent the first year acclamatising her to having shelter, adequate care, and lots of love. she's coming out of her shell and has turned into a lovable, lazy mound of fluff. she's my big doggy-bear.

Bio:
emma is a lovely (albeit small for a berner) bernese mountain dog who is beginning to develop into her personality now that she's no longer neglected, abused, or exploited (she was used as a breeding bitch at a rather inhumane puppy mill). although her teeth are pretty worn down after years of living in a small metal cage, she's in pretty good shape and is working out her "baggage". she's sweet, mellow, cheerful, and gentle. emma's learned her basic training but still struggles with stay, strangers, loud/sudden noises, and crowds/bustle. she's shy, and gets separation anxiety; but she's a good girl and really tries to please. emma seems to have dyslexia because she thinks all treats are called "chicken" or "cookie", because she lays on her back and imitates a bunny, and she thinks one of her nicknames is "meow meow" because she's the one who answers when we call kitty. how could you not love that?! look at this face! these paws!
