Arrival Story:
She came running to the lake house with only a rabies tag. We tried for a week to find the owner then took her home. We figured someone had dumped her since a few weeks later we found out she was pregnant. We weren't sure if she would get along with our Dashund Louie but they bonded immediately. They were like brother and sister. It took Dakota some time to get over the loss of her brother Louie who passed away in December 2003. She still looks around for him. When we first got her home she was afraid to move. She wouldn't jump on the furniture. When she finally realized that it was ok for her to sit on the couch, she claimed it as her spot. It actually only took her a few weeks to get comfortable in her new home and she is treated like a queen.

Bio:
Dakota trusted us from the start. She is very territorial and will bark and growl at strangers. She is protective of her family. She acts like a big mean dog but is really just a big baby. Dakota has a very strong bond with her human brother Eric. He was the first one to see her. She loved visiting my father everyday. She came with me while I took care of him until his passing in August. We moved into his house in October and Dakota is loving it. So much more room for her to run around in and outside the house. At first she wasn't sure what was going on but again she adapted. She is very quiet, only barking once in a while. But when she does it's loud and she knows when to quiet down so we don't have to tell her to be quiet. She doesn't jump up on anyone. She came into our lives March 28, 2002, so that is her true birthday to us. She really is a fantastic dog and I am so happy she found her way to us. If she didn't I can't even imagine what would have happened to her.
