Arrival Story: Layla is my very first dog. As I am an engineer & thus somewhat anal by nature, I spent months researching the best breeds for me to consider given my lifestyle -- I was incredulous that standard poodles kept coming up at the top of the list ... funny frou-frou dogs? That couldn't be right ...
But then I had the opportunity to meet a couple of standard poodles, and saw that they were fun, athletic dogs, and I didn't think that the pet clips looked so funny. So, I began my search for a poodle in earnest. I was taken by the beauty of silver coats and focused upon silver breeders across North America & happened to get Layla from Glenna Mae Lawton, who is just outside of Toronto.
Well, you might notice that Layla is _not_ silver ... she is a cream (or faded apricot, really) that came from two silver parents. She happened to be the puppy in that litter with the right personality for me.
Bio: Layla is a very busy girl, competing in obedience, rally, and agility. She is also certified as a Pet Partner with the Delta Society, a therapy animal organization, and she does animal-assisted activities at a safehouse for women and children escaping domestic violence.
I am a poodle princess living in Fort Collins, CO. I am originally from a small town near Toronto, Canada, but moved to the states when I was 10 weeks old. I enjoyed being an only-poodle until I was about 4, at which time my bratty, hyper, overbearing, stinky little brother moved-in. I actually kind of like running and playing with him but I try not to let it show too much ... he's burst the tranquility of our home and it's hard to maintain my princess demeanor when he's slobbering all over my ears.
We both get to do obedience, rally, and agility. I have AKC titles, including a CDX in obedience, an RE in rally, and both an NAP and an NJP in agility. I might get to do regular classes in agility if I start doing the weave poles faster, but I can't figure out how to avoid touching any of the poles (eew!) if I go too fast. You can see a video of me doing agility on this site. In obedience, my mom thinks I am close to getting a UD if I would just lie down by the judge during the "signal exercise." I'm not so sure about that ... I mean, why would I lie down by a stranger, especially when my mom doesn't even bother to tell me "good girl" when I do it? She used to tell me "good girl" all the time in rally, but apparently now we are done with rally. Sigh.
I also get to visit all kinds of people during therapy dog visits. Bratty Pippin doesn't get to do that yet since he is too hyper to pass the Delta Society certification. So therapy visits are "me" time -- yay!
Anyway, that's a little bit about me.
