About 8 years ago, Draco was running through some Star Jasmine in our yard and clipped his leg in such a way that he split his leg bone down the middle and almost had to have artheroscopic surgery. They were able to cast him and he healed well. At the same time, I had to have a knee replacement and was using a walker for a while. We were a pathetic pair trying to get to the yard so he could go to the was his rear leg and he couldn't lift it to pee.

This summer, as Draco began to show more signs of deterioration, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. In October, I had a lumpectomy and am currently going through Chemotherapy, to be followed up by radiation.

Draco has always had a special tuning to my needs and it feels like we have gone through so much together. I am so greatful that he was able to cross the Rainbow Bridge so peacefully...but I will always miss him.

Today was a sad day. I had to say good bye to my dear old friend Draco. After a long struggle with the normal aging of a large animal, it became apparent that something was really wrong and he was in pain. I gently lifted him into the car and took him to the vet. His cancer had advanced into his bones and walking was causing his forelegs to fracture. Pain medication could have extended his life, but how could I look in my pain filled buddies eyes and not make the decision to release him from his pain. I held him in my arms and my tears paved his road to the Rainbow Bridge. May he be at peace and play....

So Goodbye, My Prince. You will be forever in my heart as the Gentleman Dog that you are and in the memories of all who's fear of dogs was removed by your loving.
