 Quick Bio:
 Birthday: June 15th 2006
 Likes: Playing with his tennis ball, watching Animal Planet's funny videos, Meercats, giving hugs and being with me

Pet-Peeves: having to come in the house after playing

Favorite Toy: anything you throw

Favorite Food: the cat's

Favorite Walk: in the pet store where he gets spoiled rotten

Best Tricks: he is a Service Dog in Training, he does many things, but getting the phone for me is my favorite

Arrival Story: I am friends with the breeder through my volunteer work at the American Red Cross. I prayed and prayed that someone would return one of her pups, so that I could get one at a discount. My prayers work, BIG TIME. She GAVE him to me, because she knew he was special, and that I would use him for a "working dog". Gus has been tested and is now a certified Assistance Dog.

Bio: You can see where Gus came from, his breeder has a website, check out these intelligent loving dogs!! Gus is also NO SHED and hypoallergenic, proven by my nieces with allergies.

Here is a list of the commands that I have taught to Gus and had "proofed" with Gus, which is using other people giving the commands.
Get it= he will get whatever you point to with either your finger, pointer or lazer, and knows the names of certain items, such as leash, keys, phone etc. He will pick up his leash if I drop it while it's atttached to him and give it to me ( safety task)
Bring it= he will deliver items to the hand of the person asking for it.
Give= he will place item in your hand.
Drop it= will drop whatever is in his mouth
Hold it= we are up to 2 minutes now
Heel= as long as you have a treat he will stay in his "box" even with most distractions. If you don't have a treat that he can see, its hit or miss.
Down= he will down when standing, sitting or heeling. The obedience teacher said " you must make him lay down alot" lol, cuz he does that very well, even when in a "sit stay". ( we are working on that)
Brace= he will stand next to me, rigid, and allow me to use him to get up off of the floor,( not putting my full weight on him of course)
Sit= he sits whenever asked
Come= his recall has improved very much. He is now allowed to play with us outside off leash (our yard is fenced).
Push the button= Gus can push a button, the "That Was Easy button", large light up smiley button and the floor switch for the lamp are the ones we have used. We are working up to the device that opens a door.
Get the phone= when the phone rings, he will find it wherever I have left (or hidden) it, its a cell, it's all we have.
Wait= he will wait while I put on his leash, vest, harness, whatever. I say the name of the item, such as "wait, vest on" and he will duck his head to put his vest on.
Shake a Paw= shakes hands
Take it to ?= if Gus has a toy or whatever and I say "take it to Daddy, he will, and visa versa if Fred says it.
Find Mommy= he will look until he finds me
Find Daddy= he will look until he finds Fred. Now, if I lay down on the floor and tell him "find Daddy" he will go find Fred, Fred says "show me" and Gus leads him back to me~!!!!
Bow=takes a bow
Give a hug=puts arms around your neck and hugs
Gus is very eager to work, to learn. As I write all of this down, I am able to see the accomplishments he has made in his short time with me. I am very proud of him.
Gus graduated from Beginner Obedience, Attention Class, Advanced Obedience and then he earned his CGC in the summer of 2007. He has also passed his Pet Therapy test although he didn't need it to accompany me anywhere since he is my Service Dog, but he loves to learn and work and the socialization is great.
