I'd like to know what's going on!

First I went to the vet and they made me go to sleep. Then while I was asleep they did something to my mouth. I was really groggy when my mom came to get me. When I got home I kept trying to sit up and figure out what was different, but I kept falling over. Mom finally put me on the couch and propped my head up with pillows. Thanks Mom!
The next day was great! I got raw hamburger, two big mouthfuls. Then I got canned dog food! I still don't know what they did to my mouth but I like all this hamburger and canned dog food.
I think I figured out what they did. They took most of my teeth out. It doesn't matter. They hurt anyway besides I'm not supposed to bite anybody anyway.
One thing bothers me. Mom stopped giving me hamburger, and she is not giving me other treats. She keeps saying, "Soon, soon." Soon seems like a long time away.
My mouth feels a lot better. It's not puffy anymore. I can feel where my teeth were but that doesn't worry me. I still have my front teeth so I still look tough.

Surgery Smurgery

Mom has been getting ready for me to do something called surgery for a week now. It was supposed to happen today. We were supposed to go for a ride in a car and I got all excited like I do because I love car rides. We waited and waited.
Mom got excited and started pacing after a while. She pounded her fist in her palm. She made a dozen or so phone calls.
Finally she called the vet and rescheduled my surgery. This time she says she's going to have a friend drive us up to the vet. She has already called the friend she wants to drive us but he hasn't called back yet.
I say surgery smurgery. It'll happen when it's supposed to and it'll be fine.

(Donovan is having dental surgery. He has gingival hyperplasia and needs the flaps of gum cut off.)

Expect the Unexpected

On Tuesday the twelfth of July at about my bedtime (8 o'clock) Mom says I had a seizure. All I know is that I was sleeping on the couch and woke up on my feet near the cat food container.

Mom was really cool. It might have helped that she was on the phone at the time it happened, but she didn't make a fuss. She just petted me and hugged me.

I am supposed to have oral surgery the end of this month. I don't know if this seizure thing will prevent that or not. I will have to let you know.

Double Digits

We're not talking about toes! I will be ten years old on the tenth of February 2011. My mom says that we are going to celebrate the entire day. I get a can of dog food!

I don't feel any older. That's a real good thing because my mom needs me as much as ever. She thought I needed a replacement and got two different dogs at two different times as potential replacements. The first dog was too aggressive. The second dog was just right but mom wasn't really ready to train another dog. That dog went to a lady with a hearing loss and is now her ears.

It's been a busy year but at least I managed to show mom that I was still fit for service.

Putting the Dogs First

I went to my doctor the other day. She gave me holy hell. I haven't been eating a lot, because I've been spending all my money on dog food. I lost six pounds in a month. My doctor says I'm setting myself up for an infection. Well, I hope not.

Ziva continues to be a wonder. She's worth her weight in gold. I need to start training her more. She's ready and I'm procrastinating.

Donovan is still the best dog I ever had. I yelled at him tonight, and had to apologize. He went out the door with me like I've trained him to do. The only problem was that I didn't want him to go out. So there he was, no vest, no leash, standing there looking at me like I was crazy. He was right. I was the crazy one. He was doing exactly what I always want him to do. I forgot to tell him to stay in place. Luckily he forgives me for everything.

Mom left me all alone!

Mom took Ziva and left. At first I thought they would be right back. Then the time got longer and longer. I panicked! Mom was out there with only Ziva to help her! I tried to get my vest and put it on, but I couldn't. If I could get my vest on I could open the door and go to Mom. It got longer and longer that Mom was gone. It started to get dark. It got dark. Mom and Ziva weren't back yet. Suddenly, I heard Mom's wheel chair! There she was with Ziva. I was never so glad in my life. Mom came in and put Ziva in her crate. Mom petted and petted me. Mom fed Ziva and me. She took me outside for a little walk. I hurried up and toiletted so we could go back and Mom could pet me some more. Mom acted just like she had gone for a short walk with Ziva and come right back. I finally calmed down. Mom got ready for bed. Ziva and I got our night time treat, and we all went to bed. What a day!

Another Puppy

Mom's at it again! This Saturday, August first, some lady is bringing a puppy to class for us to look at. I don't want to look at any puppy! All puppies are is trouble! Grrrrrrr! And Mom says that I must be good. That I cannot attack the puppy. She says I should give the puppy a chance.

This puppy is a lab. He's chocolate like Keebler the boss' service dog. Keebler is a good dog. If this puppy is like Keebler, he might not be too bad. The puppy's name is Sullivan. Another Irish name, like mine. He's an Aquarius like me too. Grrrrrr! That means I'll have to share my birthday. Maybe there'll be twice as many treats! That would be ok.

I guess I will take a look at this puppy. Maybe he will be nice and submissive. If I can be the boss everything will be okay.

Surgery Survived!

On Thursday (July 16) I had cancer surgery. The vet cut out the tumor and a big piece of my right hind leg. I hope it was enough, because I do not want to go through that again!
Tomorrow the vet is going to take out the drainage tube they put in my leg. I can't wait.
Mom is still nervous, because the lab has to diagnose the tumor and if the piece the vet cut out was big enough.
I just want to heal up and not think about the whole thing any more.

Mom says...

Mom says I have cancer, whatever that is. She is all worried because she does not have lots of money to pay for what she says I need. I heard surgery, again. Grrrrrrr! Woof! Woof! I don't like anesthetic! I don't like waking up feeling goofy. And my leg will hurt. Mom says that the cancer is a tumor on the back of my right hind leg. She also says that I will need chemotherapy, whatever that is.

I feel like I am getting into something I am really not going to like at all. Despite all that stuff, I am going to do my job and take care of Mom. She better let me!

Grrrrrrr! Puppy Talk.

Grrrrrrrrr! Mom let another male puppy come into our place today. I showed him! I snarled and bit his back. Slippery fellow! He escaped out the door. Mom had a hold on my collar, and fell when I tried to go after that puppy.

Mom is not doing a lot of puppy talk, but she says a girl puppy when she does talk about it. I think I would like a girl puppy to play with. I like Kalani, she's a chocolate lab. The puppies will be labradoodles, I don't really know what that means. There's lab in the name, though, so a girl ought to be ok.

I just don't want another male puppy in my home.
