Dogs, Dogs, Dogs!!! Food, Food, Food!!!
Tub-time, nail-clipping time, ear-cleaning time, you get the idea...
Stuffed animals, which she promptly rips the guts out of.
BBQ, and strangely enough, Pho (Vietnamese Soup)
The park across the street (that's where her little gang meets).
Bow, spin, shake and jump & touch your palm with her nose
I was lucky enough to meet Laura from Hadeshounds.com who was incredibly kind and helpful. She put me in touch with a wonderful breeder, Bill of Soumra Kennel, who helped me immensely in getting the right pup and has been totally supportive in every way.
Her name is pronounced Mey-kAA-rey, from the throne name of the 18th dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh, Queen Hatshepsut (Hatshepsut was my second choice... Imagine trying to get people to say that properly?!).
Hey, she's a Pharaoh Hound and I am a history buff so what did you expect? =)
Mekare goes to work with her dad everyday and loves to play with her buddies, Baxter & Tommy (both Springer Spaniels and co-workers). We have a daily event at work known as, "Fight club". Mekar, Bax and Tommy get out on the lawn and chase each other around and wrestle and generally get tired, dirty, and covered with slobber but you've never seen happier pups. Bax is in love with Mekare but, he has no game so she gives him no play (Sorry to air your business, Bax). Mekare is pretty much tireless and is like a strong, skinny chick who drank whose had way to much caffiene. Tommy is the new kid on the block and Baxter's stunt double. He loves Mekare too, but he's not sure what that means yet. Mekare loves Tommy too cause he loves to chase her!
She's considers herself to be very fearsome and when she hears a noises outside, she'll go out the doggie door, bark once and then turn around and come right back in to the warmth and safety of the home, leaving Dad to deal with it. On a few occasions, I've heard a noises outside and looked over at her expecting her to do something about it and she didn't even bother to stop snoring! I know, your saying, "Maybe she didn't hear it", right? Then how come if I sneak silently into the kitchen for a late night snack, I'll turn around and there is the little blanket-dragging cheese monster standing right behind me with sleepy red eyes and licking her chops? Selective hearing, I tell you!
Anyways, I really love my pup and wish the best to you and your pets! Thanks for taking the time out to read a little about Mekare!
